U-46, LWV, teachers union, Daily Herald team up for candidate forum Mar 11, 2012 12:00 AM
Elgin Area School District U-46, in conjunction with the Elgin Area League of Women Voters, the Elgin Teachers Association and the Daily Herald, will host a legislative candidate forum on Tuesday at Streamwood High. So far, nine of 16 candidates running for a state Senate seat in a district served by U-46 have confirmed attendance.

When Jim Oberweis lost a 2008 battle to become a Congressman, he lost interest in ever being a political candidate again. He even bought a condo in Florida, where he spent last winter playing golf. But the departure of State Sen. Chris Lauzen from the 25th District rekindled Oberweis' interest. And his age lends urgency to his desire to fix the state's finances, he said.

Richard Slocum of Sugar Grove is running for the Republican nomination for the 25th District Illinois Senate seat, and Corinne Pierog of St. Charles wants the Democratic slot. That makes four people interested so far in the post. The current senator, Chris Lauzen of Aurora, is giving it up to run for the Republican nomination for Kane County Board chairman.
