Celebrate the solstice with wine benefit for Schaumburg Park Dist. Foundation Jun 19, 2013 12:00 AM
Wineries, breweries and food vendors will once again fill Spring Valley Nature Center Saturday, June 22 in honor of the summer solstice. The Schaumburg Park Foundation’s Solstice Hop and Vine Fest will be held from 6-9 p.m., and “the evening features the area’s finest wines and brews on the prairie and supports the Schaumburg Park Foundation,” said Foundation Executive Vice President Pat Casler.

The Schaumburg Sister Cities Commission donated traditional Schaumburg, Germany, apparel to Volkening Heritage Farm at Spring Valley, 201 S. Plum Grove Road. Jürgen Watermann, president of Schaumburger Deutsch-Amerikanische Gesellschaft (SDAG), the visiting German Sister Cities organization, presented the items to Schaumburg Park District staff during a visit to the Farm.

Fish, food and fun are promised at the Schaumburg Park District’s annual Father’s Day Weekend Fishing Derby from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. aturday, June 15, at Volkening Lake, 900 W. Schaumburg Road. Fishers are divided into age groups of 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13-17 and a father’s group. Prizes will be awarded for shortest fish, longest fish, most fish caught and most unique catch in each age group.

This free application, designed and developed by Links Technology Solutions Inc., gives users timely information about park locations, field conditions, facilities and fitness opportunities. Links’ work is part of a long-term partnership with the district.

Be first to cross home plate at Home Run 5K in Schaumburg May 21, 2013 12:00 AM
Schaumburg Park District’s Home Run 5K will begin at 8 a.m. June 2 in the Schaumburg Baseball Stadium parking lot and end inside Schaumburg Baseball Stadium, 1999 S. Springinsguth Road. The chip-timed event for ages 6 and older will be held on a USATF certified 3.1 mile course. Multiple age divisions are available for the 5K race.

Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson led by example Friday morning as he hosted a Bike to Work Week ride to his own workplace at the village's Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center. Larson and Schaumburg Park District Commissioner Bob Schmidt shared a tandem bicycle from the ride's starting point at the park district's Meineke Recreation Center on Weathersfield Way.
