    West Dundee officials have taken a small, but significant step toward possibly consolidating its fire services with its neighbors by ordering a study to map out response times, where most emergency calls occur and more. “Right now we're in the information-gathering phase” said Randy Friese, chief of the West Dundee Fire Department. “The more facts we get, the more better educated decisions we can make.”

     
  • ‘Minor explosion’ injures plumbers in Dundee Township Mar 25, 2014 12:10 PM
    Two plumbers were injured when a propane tank they were using malfunctioned and caused a “minor explosion” at a Dundee Township home, authorities said. “Basically, it somehow caught fire in a minor explosion within that area, which sent both of the workers to the hospital with some burns and injuries,” Rutland Dundee Fire Protection District Chief Richard Thomas said.

     
  • Sleepy Hollow police fatally shoot man during domestic disturbance Mar 9, 2014 9:28 PM
    A man was shot and killed Sunday morning by two Sleepy Hollow police officers responding to a domestic disturbance that left two others injured. The man was shot after brandishing a knife and attempting to cut two officers outside a residence near Maple Lane and Hemlock Drive, police said. “Every indication from my perspective, it appears my officers followed proper procedures,” Police Chief James Linane said.

    Carpentersville's full-time firefighters say cost-saving moves by the village spell slower response times that will jeopardize residents’ safety. And they’ve launched a campaign to warn the public of what they view as understaffing of the village’s three fire stations. The village administration, however, says firefighters have “buyer’s remorse” about their new contract and really are lamenting the anticipated loss of overtime. The campaign is nothing more than a scare tactic, village leaders say. “Management is in charge of the village, not the union,” Village Manager J. Mark Rooney said.
