    Round Lake Area Park District’s aquatic center won’t open as scheduled this weekend due to a broken pipe under the main pool, officials said. Park District Executive Director Bob Newport said the repairs are expected to cost about $50,000. He said there will be enough money in the district’s building repair fund to cover the tab. The anticipated opening date is June 15.

    The Round Lake Area Park District will be refinancing a bond issues of nearly $7 million, which is expected to free up some cash and save some time. "We can clear up debt," said executive director Bob Newport. The bonds were used to build a new clubhouse at the Renwood golf course in 1999 and build a sports complex in 2006. The extra funds could be used to repair the aging pool, for example, without having to go to referendum, which hasn't since the district was formed in 1974.

    Round Lake Area Park District officials have decided to temporarily retire Nadja, the German shepherd and personal pet of Ranger police officer Terry Kaminski. At Thursday's park board meeting, commissioners postponed the issue of liability insurance for the dog pending further discussion with their attorney and staff. In the meantime, they directed Kaminski to stop using Nadja while on duty.
