    Crews will be peeling back recently-installed synthetic field turf near the Barry Street Recreational Center in Rosemont to provide space for a new village salt storage dome. The new 61-foot diameter dome at 7048 Barry St. is replacing the aging Rosemont salt facility that had its back wall collapse over the winter when crews tried to pack it with too much salt.

    A 31-year-old Rosemont man was shot and killed Wednesday by an off-duty Rosemont police officer who is the man’s brother-in-law, officials said. Joseph Caffarello was shot by the officer at 11:57 a.m. on the 6100 block of Scott Street in Rosemont’s gated community, authorities said.

    A project to install artificial field turf at a 1.3-acre grass field next to the Barry Recreational Center in Rosemont begins this week. The village is contracting with J.E.M. Morris Construction Co. to do the $678,175 project — offset by a $176,800 state Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant received in April.

    Man's best friend won't be allowed any longer in Rosemont parks, mainly due to safety concerns, park district officials said. “The park is a place where the kids are supposed to be safe. Accidents happen. We just don't want a problem,” said park board President Rick Drehobl. We want to nip it in the bud.” Officials at the Illinois Association of Park Districts say they aren't aware of any other governmental park agency that has banned dogs.
