The Roselle fire and police departments, in partnership with Lake Park High School, will conduct a mock "Prom Accident" assembly at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Lake Park High School West Campus, 500 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., to educate students about the dangers of driving distracted and/or driving under the influence of alcohol. Lake Park celebrates prom on May 25.

Palatine senior ace Megan Hedstrom threw a 4-hitter with 4 strikeouts as the Pirates edged host Prospect 3-2 in the Mid-Suburban League third-place crossover on Wednesday. Palatine (17-11) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Jamie Haze (2-for-4, RBI) singled to score Lauren Logan. The Knights (8-19) tied the game in the bottom of the first when Rachel Trebswether led off with a triple to right center and scored on Michele Molini's one-out single to right.

Students from Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 launched 450 rockets throughout the day Tuesday as the culmination of a yearlong learning project. The launches at Schaumburg's Olympic Park involved students from all 27 of the district's schools who began exploring aerospace engineering through the NASA Rockets curriculum in September.
