  • Mencacci’s timely triple just what Montini needs Jun 5, 2014 10:16 PM
    With one swing of the bat, Montini first baseman Jake Mencacci accomplished quite a bit Thursday afternoon. The swing came on a 3-2 pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning of a 2-2 tie against Riverside-Brookfield and Division I pitcher Will Kincanon. The swing resulted in a two-out triple to deep right field that drove in the eventual game-winning run in the Broncos’ 4-2 victory.

    With Riverside-Brookfield’s Will Kincanon pitching like the ace he is, Glenbard South’s baseball team needed to play close to perfect in the field and on the mound. For five innings on Tuesday, the Raiders did just that. The Bulldogs ultimately broke through in the sixth and seventh inning, however, to claim a 7-1 victory over Glenbard South in the first matchup of a key three-game Metro Suburban Conference series in Glen Ellyn.

    Glenbard South Raiders steamrolled Riverside-Brookfield Bulldogs 49-14 in a game that was over almost from the start on Friday in Riverside. The Raiders (6-0, 2-0) were in top form as they racked up touchdowns on six consecutive possessions in the first half. The Bulldogs were overmatched and shorthanded with eight players out for the year with injuries.

    The Riverside-Brookfield duo of Damonta Henry and Eric Loury were just a little to much for Palatine to cope with as the Pirates fell 58-51 to the Bulldogs on Thursday in Yorkís Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. The Pirates (8-5) will play the host Dukes today at 6 p.m. Friday. They hope to improve on their pool-play mark in the tournament, which stands at 1-1. Henry led the Bulldogs (10-3) with 22 points and 7 rebounds while Loury ended up with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

What Kenny lacks in height, he certainly makes up for with hustle around the basket. Kenny's hard-nosed play and the Wildcats' steady game executing the fundamentals led the way to a 72-55 victory over the Bulldogs in the second round of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic boys basketball tournament on Wednesday in Riverside.

And up again in a matter of seconds.That was how the bottom of the third inning went for No. 2 seed St. Francis in its Class 3A sectional semifinal softball contest with No. 3 Riverside-Brookfield on Friday. With the score tied 2-2, the Spartans loaded the bases with no outs, and the players and their fans were fired up.
