R-B tandem deals Palatine a setback at York Dec 27, 2012 12:00 AM
The Riverside-Brookfield duo of Damonta Henry and Eric Loury were just a little to much for Palatine to cope with as the Pirates fell 58-51 to the Bulldogs on Thursday in York’s Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. The Pirates (8-5) will play the host Dukes today at 6 p.m. Friday. They hope to improve on their pool-play mark in the tournament, which stands at 1-1. Henry led the Bulldogs (10-3) with 22 points and 7 rebounds while Loury ended up with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Even in defeat on Tuesday, Glenbard South’s boys basketball team grew up a little bit. Playing perennial Metro Suburban Conference power Riverside-Brookfield is never a treat, but Glenbard South hung tough in a 76-69 loss to the Bulldogs in Glen Ellyn.

Neuqua Valley center Pat Kenny is no slouch standing 6-foot-4, but he still gives up 4 inches to standout Riverside-Brookfield big man Miki Ljuboja. What Kenny lacks in height, he certainly makes up for with hustle around the basket. Kenny's hard-nosed play and the Wildcats' steady game executing the fundamentals led the way to a 72-55 victory over the Bulldogs in the second round of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic boys basketball tournament on Wednesday in Riverside.

And up again in a matter of seconds.That was how the bottom of the third inning went for No. 2 seed St. Francis in its Class 3A sectional semifinal softball contest with No. 3 Riverside-Brookfield on Friday. With the score tied 2-2, the Spartans loaded the bases with no outs, and the players and their fans were fired up.

Maggie Hogen scored a personal-high of 19 points as Hersey got off to a running start in the Season’s End tournament with a 71-39 victory over Riverside-Brookfield at the Ken Carter Gymnasium in Arlington Heights.

Without a doubt the biggest change this season is the addition of Glenbard South to the MSC. Independent no more, the Raiders enter the conference as immediate favorites to win the title.
