Sixth sense says Simeon will be tough to beat Mar 14, 2013 12:00 AM
The IHSA will be hoping this weekend's Class 3A and 4A boys basketball state tournaments are devoid of the controversy that has marred last Saturday's 2A title-game win by Harrisburg over Seton Academy. An opportunity for history to be made could bring some welcome attention back to the Peoria Civic Center when the big schools are finished late Saturday night. Simeon and Duke-bound star Jabari Parker are trying to match the state record of four straight titles set by Peoria Manual and Sergio McClain from 1994-97. But, as always, there are plenty of other intriguing storylines as we enter the sixth year of four-class basketball. So, let's get on with our sixth year of tourney predictions, starting with Class 4A.

Willowbrook settles another score Sep 22, 2012 12:00 AM
Another week, another shot at redemption for Willowbrook's football team. Saturday in Maywood it was time to turn the tables on Proviso East. Taking advantage of six turnovers, Willowbrook rolled to a 53-14 victory to remain unbeaten in the West Suburban Gold Conference and inch a step closer to a playoff berth. Last season the Pirates (0-5, 0-2) pounded the Warriors (4-1, 2-0) 48-6. The memories of that game stayed with Willowbrook — which went 0-9 last year — as the touchdowns kept coming on Saturday.
