    The Northwest Suburban High School District 214 Board of Education on Thursday appointed Lisa Soukup to the position of Prospect High School dean of students. Soukup has taught literature and composition at Rolling Meadows High School since 2002 and held numerous co-curricular assignments. She will replace Patricia Tedaldi-Monti, who will retire in June after 21 years as Prospect dean.

    Students from 30 middle schools and high schools representing 11 states performed Friday night and Saturday during the Wheaton Warrenville South High School Choral Classic. Roughly 1,500 students appeared onstage over the course of the two days and about 4,000 people were expected to attend. Organizers said it was one of the highest attended performance events in the school’s history.

    Buffalo Grove High School won the top title as grand champion at the 21st annual Chicagoland Showcase show choir competition featuring more than 30 middle school and high school show choirs from throughout the Midwest — and even as far away as California. Turquoise trophies also went to two other big winners Saturday: Prospect High School, in the unisex division, and Batavia High School, in the festival division.

    Glassmann, Fremd make it happen in MSL title gameFeb 26, 2014 12:00 AM
    Riley Glassmann has played on Fremd’s varsity boys basketball team for four years. The senior wanted to make sure his final game in Palatine was a memorable one. Glassmann attacked the basket and hit from the outside scoring 24 points as the Vikings held off a furious late shooting barrage by Prospect to claim the Mid-Suburban League championship 55-52 on Wednesday night. “On our home court, this is amazing,” said Glassmann, who scored 16 points in the first half. “With all my friends and family here, this is awesome.” Fremd became the first MSL team to go undefeated in the regular season.

    With such a proud wrestling history, there have been plenty of great seasons at Libertyville. This one has to rank among the very best. The Wildcats are heading to the 3A dual-team state tournament after defeating Barrington 31-20 Tuesday in sectional action. The raucous crowd at Libertyville can follow their favorite team to U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington for a state quarterfinal matchup against Rockton Hononegah at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Indians (26-3-0) advanced to the tournament for the first time since 2005 after handling Prospect 56-6.

     
  • Familiar foes Glassmann, Frasco meet in MSL title gameFeb 25, 2014 12:00 AM
    Fremd’s Riley Glassmann and Prospect’s Bobby Frasco were interchangeable parts last summer. Now the pair have their own positions while guiding their respective high school teams to the Mid Suburban boys basketball title game Wednesday at Fremd. Glassmann, who is averaging 17.8 points this year, and Frasco, who is 16.1, both played together on the same AAU team last summer.
