Television. Birthday. Dialing long distance. So what do the above have to do with undefeated Prospect posting a 65-32 win over St. Viator at the Jean Walker Field House on Tuesday night? Senior Taylor Will, playing her first game since appearing on Comcast SportsNet television over the weekend, scored a game-high 19 points and Knights freshman guard Emily Frasco celebrated her 15th birthday with one of Prospect’s nine season-high nine 3-pointers. It all added up to a second straight season in which the Knights have begun 8-0.

  • Schaumburg has a defensive day to remember Dec 16, 2014 10:16 PM
After his team’s loss to Oak Park on Saturday, new Schaumburg coach Marty Manning said that he would prefer his team to stay away from Saturday games in the future. “We just didn’t have much energy Saturday,” Manning said before his team tipped off against Prospect on Tuesday night. “It’s tough playing back-to-back nights. I never liked it when I played. We will get to a Tuesday-Friday schedule next season because that’s what you play in the state playoffs and I want our kids ready for that.” Schaumburg seemed plenty ready Tuesday. They forced turnovers at the beginning and down the stretch to post a 47-40 victory over the Knights.

The senior finished second on the uneven parallel bars event and tied for second on balance beam as Prospect (108.52) edged Carmel (108.45) for the title.

  • Fab four smashes relay record in Meadows’ victory Dec 13, 2014 8:36 PM
The record-board rearranging continued for Rolling Meadows’ boys swimming team on Saturday. Probably the most important change didn’t have anything to do with time, but rather final placement. Never before in coach Monika Chiappetta’s 17 years had the Mustangs taken top team honors in the Wild Stallion Jamboree. But there was Rolling Meadows, 3 points ahead of defending Mid-Suburban East champ Prospect on Saturday, and well ahead of strong teams from Hersey, Cary-Grove and Lane Tech.

  • Prospect clears key MSL East test against Hersey Dec 12, 2014 10:25 PM
Depth matters in team swimming. A lot. The Hersey boys swim team is building it. Prospect already has it, which was the main reason it prevailed 106.5-79.5 in Friday’s Mid-Suburban East dual-meet clash at Wheeling.

Prospect won its first Mid-Suburban East game last week with only three players scoring against an undefeated Hersey team. Going up against another undefeated team in its second conference game on Thursday night, the Knights were hoping for a little more offensive balance. Sure enough, they doubled their fun. This time, six girls made it into the scoring column as Prospect handed visiting Buffalo Grove its first loss, 45-32, at the Jean Walker Field House. Despite picking up her third foul with two minutes left in the first half and her fourth with 4:15 left in the third, senior Catherine Sherwood led the ever-so-balanced Knights with 10 points. Next came Haley Will (8), Nikki Matters (8), Taylor Will (7), Brenda Kendziera (7) and Clare O’Carroll (5).

  • Poised Prospect withstands Fremd charge to hand Vikings their first loss Dec 6, 2014 9:52 PM
Prospect senior guard Kyle Beyak wasted no time when asked the key to his team handing Fremd its first loss in Saturday’s night’s Mid-Suburban League boys basketball crossover match at the Jean Walker Field. “The key was definitely Friday night at Hersey,” said Beyak, referring to the Knights’ 53-37 win in Arlington Heights that broke a three-game losing streak. “That gave us the momentum and a lot of confidence for this game.” The Knights showed that confidence especially at the end Saturday, as Fremd recovered from a 16-point deficit to close to within 3 points early in the fourth quarter. But the poised Knights held their ground and left with a 53-47 triumph that evened their record to 3-3.

You’ll have to forgive John Schauble if he looked a bit tired Friday evening. He had been up most of the previous night pondering his return as coach of the Palatine boys swimming and diving team. See, the last time he coached the Pirates was 1990. Since then, he served as Aquatics Director and physical education teacher at Stevenson, where he founded the Patriot Aquatic Club. But life is often cyclical, and there was Schauble on deck at the Palatine pool Friday, watching with a satisfaction as his charges roared to a convincing 118-67 victory over Buffalo Grove in a Mid-Suburban League crossover meet.
