St. Francis tackles tall task vs. Grayslake Central Jun 7, 2013 12:00 AM
Playing small ball was St. Francis’s answer to the big problems Grayslake Central starter Jack Spicer presented, not the least of which was his intimidating 6-foot-6 frame. The Spartans pulled Spicer off the mound with a couple of bunts that would have been tough for any big pitcher to get to in Friday's Class 3A state semifinals. Tim Zettinger’s textbook bunt with one out set up a suicide squeeze that scored 2 runs in the fourth inning, and that wound up being a game-changer for St. Francis in a 6-3 victory over Grayslake Central.

He was 8-0 in league games and pitched shutouts in seven of them. The only run he allowed in NSC play was to Wauconda last month in the league title game, a 5-1 Mundelein win.
