Renovations begin Thursday at Hanover Park library May 14, 2013 12:00 AM
A groundbreaking will take place Thursday to mark the beginning of $1.1 million in renovations at the Poplar Creek Public Library District's Sonya Crawshaw Branch in Hanover Park. The branch, which opened in 2001, is in need of updates and additions, such as a new staff room and better accessibility for disabled patrons.

For the first time since opening its doors in 1991, the Sonya Crawshaw Library branch in Hanover Park will undergo a renovation. The Poplar Creek Public Library District board recently hired PHN Architects of Aurora to come up with a design for the nearly 3,000-square-foot facility at 4300 Audrey Lane.

Hulke, Carl win Poplar Creek library seats Apr 5, 2011 12:00 AM
Challenger Bonnie Hulke beat out incumbent Cheryl Domokos for a seat on the Poplar Creek Library Board, unofficial results show. With 44 of 45 precincts reporting, incumbent Patricia Carl had the lead with 38 percent, and Hulke came in with 33 percent of the vote. Incumbent Domokos trailed Hulke by more than 3 percentage points.

Which is more shabby, prosecutors revealing ex-Gov. George Ryan’s two-hour visit with his dying wife or Ryan’s attorneys playing the sympathy card to try to get him freed on bail? Both acts feel like manipulation. What’s saddest is how the political intrigues have overshadowed and diminished the human suffering taking place.
