  A man may have followed a 10-year-old girl in Wheeling as she walked to school around 8 a.m. May 9. She saw him following her as she was about to turn south on Fletcher Drive. Instead, she turned westbound on Anthony, speed walking and then running. The man crossed Anthony and sped up as she ran. She found a crossing guard in the area of Anthony and Schoenbeck Road and told her she was being followed.

  Burglars broke into a 2013 Mercedes GLK 350 between 8:35 and 9:50 p.m. May 21 in a restaurant lot at 798 W. Algonquin Road in Arlington Heights and stole a purse with wallet, two pairs of sunglasses, cosmetics bag, iPad, cash, checkbook and credit/debit cards. The credit card was used at a gas station in Maywood. Loss was estimated at $2,600.

  Two Carol Stream brothers were arrested around 8:30 p.m. May 16 at the Streamwood Walmart after police said they took two electronic items valued at $249, left the store without paying and tossed the items under vehicles in the Sams Club parking lot.

  Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a Carpentersville woman they say hit a man in the forehead with a bottle May 19 while the pair was driving in the 100 block of Bolz Road, police said.

  Candy Jenkins, 18, of Elgin, was charged Wednesday with burglary and theft after she took cash and other items from a cash box that she and another person removed from the office at Larkin Home March 27, according to a police report.

  Caprice L. Thomas, 24, ofAurora, was charged with retail theft at 10:16 a.m. Tuesday at Kohl’s, 251 N. Randall Road, according to a police report.

  Thieves stole a wallet out of a woman's purse at a store in Des Plaines on May 14 and used several credit cards in the wallet: $1,005 at two Target stores, $785 at the Des Plaines Kmart, three separate Shell gas stations, at a Safeway store in Oak Park, and $7 at a Hertz's to reserve a rental car. Loss was estimated at $2,010.

  Randall W. Hallberg, 48, of the 400 block of Illinois Avenue, Batavia, was charged with assault, at 3:16 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of North Washington Avenue, according to a police report.

  A 16-year-old boy from West Dundee was charged with theft under $300 on May 15, police said. He turned himself in to Algonquin police and was later released to his parents, police said.

  Burglars entered an unlocked apartment on the 900 block of West Panorama Drive in Palatine May 8 and stole two keyboards, watch, digital workstation, 8-track mixer and other electronic equipment. Value was estimated at $8,200.

  Four vehicles in the 36W200 block of Indian Mounds Road near St. Charles were burglarized between 2 and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday and a 2003 Mercedes was stolen, according to a sheriff's report

  A Schaumburg man was charged with criminal damage to property after a dispute over how fast motorists were driving on his street. Reports said he hurled a roll of tape that cracked the windshield on a vehicle he tried to stop because he felt it was going too fast. Reports said the driver at first just wanted the windshield repaired, but later said he wanted to press charges because the repair work had not been done.

  A male driver stole the cellphone from a woman driver during a traffic altercation, Des Plaines police reports said. The female driver rear-ended the male and continued driving. The male driver checked the damage to his vehicle, then resumed driving, catching up to the Lancer stopped at a red light. He sidwswiped the female's vehicle and, when the female victim got out of her car, grabbed her cellphone and drove away, reports said.
  

   

• Bike accident victim identified as Elk Grove woman May 15, 2013 12:00 AM
  A bicyclist who was killed by a car Tuesday morning whole crossing Higgins Road at the exit ramp from northbound Route 53 has been identified. A spokeswoman from the Cook County medical examiner's office said the victim was Rosaleen Waters, 46, of Elk Grove Village.

  Thieves stole the air conditioner unit from the roof of a building at 1090 Executive Way in Des Plaines. The roof was damaged and water has been leaking into the foreclosed building, reports said. Loss was estimated at $50,000.

  Laurencio C. Pena Jr., 42, of Elgin, was charged Tuesday with forgery, issue or delivery of a forged document and identity theft after he used a relative's name, birth date and Social Security number to seek treatment at a hospital, according to a police report.
  

   

• Tri-Cities police reports May 15, 2013 12:00 AM
  Daniel Dieter, 45, of Aurora, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or more, improper lane use and driving without lights when required after a traffic stop at 2 a.m. Saturday at South Randall Road and Gleneagle Drive near Geneva, according to a sheriff's report. Dieter failed field sobriety tests and a breath test, and registered a .14 BAC, the report said.
