  • Peace pole coming to Naperville’s Veterans Park Dec 18, 2014 4:30 PM
    An 8-foot-tall peace pole will be installed next spring at Veterans Park in Naperville as a gathering point to celebrate peace near and far. The ThinkGlobal Arts Foundation commissioned the pole designed by an Ohio artist to promote peace as a value in the community, said Revati Natesan, the group’s founder. “We think every moment is peaceful, every day is peace, so we’re just going to celebrate,” she said.

    A contractor on the Armstrong Park flood-control project in Carol Stream hit an unmarked gas line Thursday morning, causing headaches for parents trying to get their children to nearby schools. The 2-inch gas line was struck near the Gretna Station Museum & Caboose located at the park’s entrance off Illini Drive.

    After losing hundreds of homes to O’Hare International Airport expansion, Bensenville wants to increase its residential tax base. Meanwhile, the White Pines subdivision near the village has an aging water delivery system that needs to be replaced. So Bensenville officials are proposing a deal that they believe could benefit both the village and White Pines’ residents --- although some of the homeowners aren’t so sure.

But officials who negotiated the deal argue the 17 government agencies that receive property taxes from the golf club potentially saved the same taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in future legal bills by settling.
