Sergio Garcia apologized for saying he would “serve fried chicken” while making a joke about having Tiger Woods over for dinner. The British newspaper The Guardian reported Garcia was asked in jest while on stage at the European Tour’s awards dinner Tuesday night if he would invite Woods to dinner during the U.S. Open.

Revamped Fox Run course makes its debut May 7, 2013 12:00 AM
April storms created a nightmare for Chicago's golf course operators. While the storms were especially troublesome at Fox Run, the Elk Grove Park District facility that underwent a $2 million renovation for two years under the supervision of architect Gregory Martin, all 18 holes are open now. Tour drops doping case against Singh Apr 30, 2013 12:00 AM
The PGA Tour dropped its doping case against Vijay Singh on Tuesday based on new information from the World Anti-Doping Agency, which said using deer antler spray is no longer prohibited because it contains such small amounts of a growth hormone factor.

Len Ziehm catches up with Crystal Lake's Joe Affrunti, who suffered a serious shoulder injury months after earning his PGA Tour card. Now he's sharpening his game on the Web.com tour and preparing for his return to the PGA Tour. "My first tournament back will probably be in Memphis (St. Jude Classic in June)," said Affrunti, "but I can play on the Web.com as long as my (PGA Tour qualifying) number doesn't come up."

Adam Scott became the first Australian to win the Masters, beating Angel Cabrera on the second hole of a playoff on a soggy Sunday at Augusta National.The Masters went to a sudden-death playoff for the second year in a row when Scott and Cabrera made matching birdies on the 72nd hole.

By all accounts, Adam Scott is one of professional golf's terrific people. Too bad he won the Masters on Sunday. Nothing against Scott, but look at him next to Angel Cabrera and justice has to prefer the latter. Someone my age at least has to favor the older guy over the younger guy, the burly guy who seems to have body fat under his sweater over the guy with a flat belly under his tightfitting shirt and the guy who uses a conventional putter over the guy with one of those controversial long putters.

Tiger Woods got a reprieve Saturday in the Masters when he was given a two-shot penalty for a bad drop after signing his card and still was allowed to stay in the tournament. He wasn't disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard under a revised rule — announced at the Masters two years ago — that allows a player to stay in the tournament if a rules dispute was based on television evidence.

Brandt Snedeker and Angel Cabrera were tied for the lead after the third round of the Masters, a Saturday that will be remembered for Tiger Woods' penalty. Woods is four shots back and still in contention despite being docked two strokes for an improper drop in the second round. Snedeker and Cabrera will play in the final group Sunday at 7-under 209.
