Saturdays Crosstown Lacrosse Classic at the East Side Sports Complex in St. Charles marks the first time varsity boys teams representing both St. Charles East and St. Charles North will face each other. After operating as a unified body for some 15 years, the St. Charles Lacrosse Club has split its boys programs. The girls team remains a co-op.

    Two seasons with Lexi Baltes on the court, two Final Four appearances for Illinois Wesleyan University. St. Charles East graduate Baltes, a sophomore guard, helped the Titans reach the NCAA Division III Womens Final Four, with semifinals Friday and the championship Saturday.

    On a training run years ago at Herrick Lake Forest Preserve in Wheaton, Glenbard Souths boys track team came upon Lisle coach Ken Jakalski, whose team was doing the same thing. As Glenbard South coach Andy Preuss remembered it Jakalski wore a tropical bird costume a toucan outfit, he called it. Their paths cross once again, in a way, as each of these retiring Hall of Fame coaches enters the homestretch.
