Oak Park locks out York Mar 7, 2013 12:00 AM
To win this game, a great defense had to become even greater in the fourth quarter. Oak Park’s boys basketball team somehow kicked it up that extra notch. The Huskies’ late lockdown led them to a 43-39 win over West Suburban Silver Conference rival York in Thursday’s Class 4A Schaumburg sectional semifinals.

Schaumburg falls to OPRF in OT Mar 1, 2013 12:00 AM
It’s probably asking a lot of a basketball team to have to play an extra session for the third time in its last four games. It’s probably asking a lot of team to try to match up with an opponent that can field a lineup with three guys measuring 6-foot-8 or better. And it’s probably asking a lot of a team to try to keep the game close, let alone maintain a lead, when its leading scorer gets helped off the court after injuring a leg diving over the opponent’s bench to try to steal a ball. All told, it was too was too much to overcome Friday night for Schaumburg in a 32-30 overtime loss to tall, talented Oak Park-River Forest in the finals of the Glenbard North Class 4A regional.

Walgreens' own Rx alters drugstore theme Jan 14, 2013 12:00 AM
A hair salon. Salad bar. Vitamin deficiency testing. Sounds like an eclectic mix for a retailer to have inside one store, especially Walgreen Co. Yet that's part of some upcoming plans, including the hair salon now being tested in a New York store, to help boost the Deerfield-based drugstore chain. “We're moving from being just a drugstore to a health and daily living destination,” said Joe Magnacca, Walgreen president of daily living products and services.

Oak Park’s size too much for Schaumburg Dec 8, 2012 12:00 AM
Schaumburg played in the land of the giants Saturday. And the Saxons came op a bit short on the giant-killing, dropping a 50-40 decision to Oak Park on Saturday in Schaumburg. The Saxons needed to plot a route around the Oak Park front line that averaged 6-foot-8. Schaumburg patiently found its course on offense. "I thought we played real hard tonight," Schaumburg coach Matt Walsh said. "They are a talented team with great guards and their bigs are long and athletic."
