Glasgow, who wears the purple and black as a standout guard for Rolling Meadows’ state-ranked girls basketball team, will stick to the same color scheme when she moves on to the next level in 2014. The 5-foot-11 junior has made a verbal commitment to coach Joe McKeown’s Northwestern University women’s program.

    This year's Big Ten women's basketball tournament March 7-10 is about much more than the games. For the first time in more than a decade, the tournament is moving from its location in Indianapolis. The new venue is the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, which is throwing many free fan events to increase the appeal. Tickets start at $15 for a single session, but the weekend also will feature plenty of free fan events.

    Northwestern added a pair of highly ranked players to its offense Wednesday as part of its 2013 recruiting class. "We as a staff are confident we've signed a group of young men who are tremendous fits for our program athletically, academically and socially," coach Pat Fitzgerald said. "These 21 individuals are joining a program with a lot of momentum and I look forward to the contributions they'll make toward helping us achieve our goals in years to come."

Officials from Northwestern Athletics and the Cubs announced Tuesday they have joined forces for a marketing partnership that will include showcasing Wildcat teams at Wrigley Field in coming years, including baseball, lacrosse and football.

Jared Swopshire and Dave Sobolewski each added 13 points for the Wildcats (13-10, 4-6 Big Ten), who scored the game's first 12 points and snapped a four-game losing streak to the Boilermakers.

    Trey Burke had 18 points and eight assists, and No. 1 Michigan was nearly flawless at the start Wednesday night en route to a 68-46 victory over Northwestern. The Wolverines made 10 of their first 11 shots and went the entire first half without a turnover. They didn't commit a foul, either, until the final minute of the half.

    CHAMPAIGN — Northwestern and Illinois were both looking to bounce back from bad blowout losses, games where neither team could shoot or play defense. Only the Wildcats improved, extending No. 23 Illinois’ losing streak to three games while handing the Illini a 68-54 home loss Thursday night that could cost them their Top 25 ranking.

Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, had a presenting sponsor. The last time was in 2009, when South Carolina golf mecca Myrtle Beach took the leadership role. This time the show will be presented by the BMW Championship, the Western Golf Association's premier event, and golf writer Len Ziehm calls it a win-win situation.

    J. Landis (Lanny) and Sharon Martin have committed $15 million to support Northwestern University's campaign for athletics and recreation, bringing the total of major gifts pledged in support of this campaign to more than $70 million, university officials announced Monday.

    Northwestern coach Bill Carmody said his team hadn't shot as well as it could in losses to Michigan and Minnesota in its last two games before facing Penn State on Thursday night. It was a different Wildcats team that took the floor in Happy Valley, as Dave Sobolewski scored 18 points and Jared Swopshire added 17 to pace Northwestern in a 70-54 Big Ten Conference victory against cold-shooting Penn State.

     
  •  After opening the Big Ten season with loses to highly ranked Michigan and Minnesota, Bill Carmody's Northwestern team has fallen to 9-6 on the season. The Wildcats have gone 3-6 in their last nine games.

Couple that with no NCAA tournament bids and you have a team that needs to make some changes.
