Chicago Craft Beer Week launched four years ago as a way to celebrate all the breweries and beer-focused spots that the area has to offer. Since then it's continued to grow every year. This year more than 300 spots in the city and suburbs are using the event as an opportunity to offer something special to their existing customers, lure in more patrons and test the appeal of new beers.

Naperville council OKs new late-night permit for old Rosebud site May 8, 2013 12:00 AM
Mayor George Pradel begged the council to "hold off" and Police Chief Robert Marshall says the move will require the city to hire more police, but Naperville officials increased their late-night liquor permits by one. Council members voted 8 to 1, with Pradel voting no, to expand the capped permits to allow for Ballydoyle to open its new Empire craft beer and burger pub at the corner of Chicago Avenue and Main Street in the old Rosebud site.

I was looking forward to trying out the southwest Naperville outpost of Tommy Nevin's Pub when it first opened in 2007. On our first visit, the one thing that stood out beside the jovial atmosphere was the noise level in the crowded bar. We decided to give it another try on a recent Sunday. It's still packed, but we found some quieter spots where we could enjoy the varied food and drink menu.

New downtown Barrington tavern will serve nearby restaurant patrons Apr 23, 2013 12:00 AM
A long-vacant building along the Union Pacific railroad tracks in downtown Barrington will become a tavern called the Tip Top Tap later this spring. Village trustees approved a special-use permit Monday to turn the former Executive Center at 102 N. Cook Street into a tavern primarily intended as a waiting area for Ciao Baby! restaurant, which sits 200 feet to the east at 232 E. Main St.
