    Less than 10 months ago, Maine West won the biggest softball game in the program's history when it defeated New Trier in 10 innings for its first sectional crown. The two teams met again Thursday in Des Plaines in an early-season Central Suburban League crossover. Although the two teams didn't go to overtime this time, they played another entertaining game that went down to the wire. Allison Quigley, who suffered the loss in relief last June, was ready for the challenge this time and helped lead the Tevians to a 3-2 victory.

    Stampede fall 2-1 in OT Mar 24, 2013 12:00 AM
    Andrew Cole got a hand on the puck, just not enough. The puck slipped past Cole, crossed the goal line, thus ending the storybook season for the BG/H/W Stampede, a mix of players from Buffalo Grove, Hersey and Wheeling. Rockford defeated the Stampede 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Combined Division championship game at the United Center.

    Call it two the hard way. Counted out at the beginning of the year, down a game in both matches this weekend at Redbird Arena, No. 1-ranked Benet stormed back Saturday to beat New Trier 21-25, 25-22, 25-17 to repeat as Class 4A champion.

    Both No. 9 New Trier and No. 8 Conant entered Saturday's Class 8A playoff game sporting powerful offenses coming off shootout victories in the final week of the regular season. Scoreboard operator's delight, right? Wrong. Defense was the story, and Conant's was more opportunistic in a 14-0 victory. "We've been outscoring people," Conant coach Bill Modelski said. "We really haven't been stopping people. We've really only had a couple of games this year where the defense has really won the game for us."

With some sleep still in their eyes, the pair then hit and pitched the Warriors to their first sectional title in school history with a 4-2 victory over New Trier in 10 innings at Niles West in Skokie.Maine West (27-10) will meet Bartlett in Monday's supersectional at Bandit Stadium in Rosemont at 4:30 p.m.

    The Bartlett girls basketball program has achieved a lot since the school opened in 1998. The Hawks can now add their first Dundee-Crown Charger Classic championship as well as another 1,000 point scorer to the list. Senior Kristin Conniff scored 24 points, eclipsing 1,000 for her career, and the Hawks hit New Trier with a 26-10 blitz in the third quarter theld held on during a frenetic finish to beat the Trevians 76-66 in the 29th annual tournament’s championship game before a vocal crowd of about 800 Thursday night in Carpentersville.
