Play a clean defensive game with solid pitching, and you always have a chance. That's how Neuqua Valley's baseball team beat Waubonsie Valley despite managing only 4 hits. Behind Jonathan Vlk's complete-game effort on the mound and some timely hitting, the Wildcats capped a three-game Upstate Eight Conference sweep with Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Warriors in Naperville.

Kurth sparks Waubonsie comeback May 7, 2013 12:00 AM
Jordan Kurth hadn't thrown a pitch in a game in over a month. A recent slump dropped her in Waubonsie Valley's batting order until Tuesday. Then Kurth proceeded to key a most improbable Warriors rally. Kurth's single started a four-run seventh inning, she threw two-plus shutout innings of relief, then singled in the game-winner in the eighth as No. 11 Waubonsie turned the tables on a loss to No. 20 Neuqua Valley a week prior with a 5-4 win in Naperville.

Neuqua Valley cools off St. Charles East May 6, 2013 12:00 AM
Many baseball observers like to say that hitting is contagious. Pitching can be, too. Right-hander Cody Coll tossed a masterful 2-hit complete game to help lead Neuqua Valley (18-8, 15-5) to a 4-0 Upstate Eight Conference crossover victory over St. Charles East (16-8, 14-5) Monday afternoon in St. Charles.

Neuqua Valley’s HR barrage silences South Elgin May 1, 2013 12:00 AM
Neuqua Valley senior Alyssa Domico may have used an old cliché Wednesday, but it rang truer than ever in the Wildcats' 10-5 Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division softball win at South Elgin. "Hitting is contagious," Domico said. "We've gotten into a rhythm lately and when one girl hits we all hit. We've got a positive attitude and we're focused. It's pretty awesome." Domico hit the first of 3 Neuqua home runs and her first of the season in Wednesday's win, a 3-run shot to left field in the top of the first inning that staked the Wildcats (12-8, 8-3) to a 4-0 lead.

Rally energizes Neuqua Valley Apr 30, 2013 12:00 AM
A bouncing ball up the middle here. A sizzler off an infielder's glove there. Throw in a handful of well-placed basehits. Next thing it knew, Neuqua Valley had itself a 5-run seventh inning. The Wildcats strung together seven straight singles — all coming after two were out — to break a tie with No. 9 Waubonsie Valley and went on to a come-from-behind 9-5 win Tuesday in Aurora.
