Behind Jonathan Vlk's complete-game effort on the mound and some timely hitting, the Wildcats capped a three-game Upstate Eight Conference sweep with Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Warriors in Naperville.

    Jordan Kurth hadn't thrown a pitch in a game in over a month. A recent slump dropped her in Waubonsie Valley's batting order until Tuesday. Then Kurth proceeded to key a most improbable Warriors rally. Kurth's single started a four-run seventh inning, she threw two-plus shutout innings of relief, then singled in the game-winner in the eighth as No. 11 Waubonsie turned the tables on a loss to No. 20 Neuqua Valley a week prior with a 5-4 win in Naperville.

    Upstate Eight girls meet postponed until Friday May 2, 2013 12:00 AM
    Due to inclement weather and safety concerns, the Upstate Eight Conference girls track and field meet was postponed Thursday night and will resume Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Memorial Field in Elgin. Elgin Athletic Director Paul Pennington and the UEC track coaches met five times in a span of an hour after the first lightning strike occurred around 5:45 p. m. and agreed that it was in the best interest of the student-athletes to keep them safe and postpone the meet.

    Neuqua Valley senior Alyssa Domico may have used an old cliché Wednesday, but it rang truer than ever in the Wildcats' 10-5 Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division softball win at South Elgin. "Hitting is contagious," Domico said. "We've gotten into a rhythm lately and when one girl hits we all hit. We've got a positive attitude and we're focused. It's pretty awesome." Domico hit the first of 3 Neuqua home runs and her first of the season in Wednesday's win, a 3-run shot to left field in the top of the first inning that staked the Wildcats (12-8, 8-3) to a 4-0 lead.

  • Rally energizes Neuqua Valley Apr 30, 2013 12:00 AM
    A bouncing ball up the middle here. A sizzler off an infielder's glove there. Throw in a handful of well-placed basehits. Next thing it knew, Neuqua Valley had itself a 5-run seventh inning. The Wildcats strung together seven straight singles — all coming after two were out — to break a tie with No. 9 Waubonsie Valley and went on to a come-from-behind 9-5 win Tuesday in Aurora.
