Glenbard West reigns Apr 20, 2013 12:00 AM
Emma Gambol was not about to leave Benedictine University with three runner-up performances Saturday afternoon in Lisle. The Glenbard West sophomore, after razor-thin defeats in the 100-meter dash and 300 hurdles, not to mention a third-place finish in the triple jump, had a comfortable lead on the anchor leg of the 1,600 relay. Gambol proceeded to lengthen the Hilltoppers’ lead over Whitney Young to cement their third consecutive team championship of the Sue Pariseau girls track and field invitational. Gambol, with support from Emma Reifel, Mary Nevins and Emma Winans, catapulted the Hilltoppers’ quartet to victory in 4:03.19 as the last event of the 15-team invitational was emblematic of the final team score.

No debating great Scott field Apr 12, 2013 12:00 AM
After Naperville North's annual coed Gus Scott Track and Field Invitational is all over, coaches of all the teams meet in the field house to decide on boys and girls MVPs. It could have been a lively debate on Friday. St. Charles East's Britney Williams earned the girls honor for lighting up the oval in the 400- and 800-meter runs. The Iowa State-bound senior won the A-level of the three-tier meet with a time of 2 minutes, 18.87 seconds, nearly nine seconds ahead of Naperville North's Ella Guppy. Williams' time went under the Class 3A qualifying standard by almost a second. Williams returned to win the 400 in 59.33, again dipping below the qualifying standard in an event that took her to Charleston as a junior.

It's difficult to figure out which has been harder to stick with this season: Naperville North sophomore Abbie Boswell, or when and where the Huskies would face Waubonsie Valley during Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Boswell scored late in the first half, but the Warriors answered with the equalizer to earn a hard-fought draw during Friday's contest, which ended up being played on Metea Valley's artificial surface.
