    You’d expect nothing else from an eighth seed facing a ninth seed. That being said, you sure couldn’t see it coming from Waubonsie Valley and Naperville North on Tuesday. The Warriors held off a late and furious Naperville North rally to top the Huskies 46-44 in Tuesday’s Class 4A Lemont boys basketball regional semifinals. The victory sends No. 8 Waubonsie Valley (19-9) into Friday’s regional title game to face top-seeded Benet (20-7), an 81-36 winner over Lemont in Tuesday’s first semifinal game.

    In its final regular-season boys basketball game Naperville North spoiled cross-town rival Naperville Central’s festivities with a 41-29 DuPage Valley Conference win on Wednesday. The Huskies (17-9, 9-5) went on a 9-0 and a 7-0 run in the first two quarters of the game and had a 21-point fourth quarter to take revenge on the Redhawks, who won the previous season meeting. The Redhawks were holding their Senior Night as well as honoring their football state championship during the game.

    Naperville North’s Michaela Robert knows what the girls gymnastics state experience is like, but Saturday caught the junior by surprise. Robert advanced out of Friday’s individual event preliminaries on vault and bars, ualifying for the individual finals for the first time. “It was a lot more intense than I was kind of expecting it to be,” she said. “I was not expecting all of the cameras and everything, but I just kept the right state of mind. I was able to be a bit more relaxed because I knew there wasn’t anything more after this on the season and I think that really helped me.”
