Angry Naperville Central moves on May 13, 2013 12:00 AM
At some point, Naperville Central was going to accept its first loss and move on. The Redhawks weren't quite there Monday afternoon. "On the bus Nuss (coach Andy Nussbaum) was like There are stages of grief, and I think I'm at the anger stage,'" Redhawks junior Maddi Doane said with a smile. "That's how a lot of us felt today." Getting back on the field provided the needed medicine. Two days after St. Charles North handed No. 1 Naperville Central its first defeat, the Redhawks rebounded in neat fashion to beat Naperville North 6-2 at North Central College.

Cattenhead a hit for Glenbard South May 13, 2013 12:00 AM
To say Ashton Cattenhead has been a pleasant surprise for Glenbard South only tells half the story. It was a surprise she's even here. Cattenhead played for Glenbard South's freshman team two years ago, then moved to Huntley her sophomore year. Julie Fonda, the Raiders softball coach, didn't realize Cattenhead was back until she bumped into her in the hallway last fall.

Junior Angela Wu and senior Kelly Owens advanced through the singles consolation bracket in Saturday in Charleston to meet one another in the consolation semifs. Wu won that matchup 21-14, 21-9 to earn a spot in the fifth-place match, where she dropped a two-setter to Audrey Mang of New Trier. The points amassed by Wu and Owens helped the Vikings to another state trophy finish under coach Bob Hanson. Thornton Fractional South won the team championship with 16.5 points. Fremd and Naperville Central tied for second place with 12.

Schank, Naperville Central win pitchers’ duel May 8, 2013 12:00 AM
It didn't take long to figure out Wednesday's baseball game between Naperville Central and Naperville North might come down to just one mistake. Redhawks pitcher Jeff Schank made sure he didn't make that mistake. The Butler-bound senior left-hander scattered 6 hits and walked no one as Naperville Central began the three-game DuPage Valley Conference series with a 1-0 victory over the visiting Huskies.

Naperville Central ends 24-year DVC drought May 8, 2013 12:00 AM

Naperville Central’s softball diamond doesn’t suggest a hitter’s paradise, what with the dimensions 220 feet to all fields. Clearly, the confines are friendly to the Redhawks. No. 1 Naperville Central continued its recent red-hot hitting at home Saturday, remaining unbeaten by sweeping No. 11 Lake Park 7-0 and 12-1.
