Michael Steuerwald will return as head coach of the Chicago Bandits for the 2013 season, team officials announced Friday. Joining him as an assistant will be Jimmy Kolaitis, currently an assistant at the University of South Alabama softball team.

Two Japanese softball standouts, Eri Yamada and Kazuki Watanabe, have signed contracts to play with the Chicago Bandits and join the National Pro Fastpitch League. Yamada led Japan to a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics, and Watanabe helped Team Toyota win back-to-back Japan Softball League championships in 2011 and 2012.

Jolene Henderson, Michelle Gascoigne, Maggie Hull, Raven Chavanne, Mel Dumezich and Jenna Marston were selected by the Chicago Bandits in the 2013 NPF Draft held in Nashville. Henderson,a University of California standout, was the top pick by the Bandits and third overall in the 2013 NPF Draft.

With back-to-back Pitcher of the Year titles in hand, Chicago Bandits ace Monica Abbott has re-signed for the 2013 season, general manager Aaron M. Moore announced Friday. "Monica is the exact definition of an Ace and we're thrilled to have her back," Moore said. "Monica wants the ball when the game is online and I think her teammates feed off of her emotion in the circle."

eteran catcher Shannon Doepking will retire from National Pro Fastpitch after five seasons, the Chicago Bandits announced Monday. "This is an announcement we were not looking forward to make," Bandits general manager Aaron M. Moore said in a statement released to the media. "Doepking came in and managed not only Monica (Abbott), but the entire pitching staff so effectively.

The Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch league have re-signed catcher Kristen Butler for the 2013 season, team officials announced this week.“We are happy to have Kristen back with us,” Bandits general manager Aaron M. Moore said. “Kristen provides some much-needed pop from the right side of the plate for us and she also brings a nice veteran presence. We’re looking for her to at least duplicate what she did in 2012. If she does that, our lineup will continue to get stronger.”

NPF makes ‘heartbreaking’ decision to cancel series Sep 7, 2012 12:00 AM
For the first time in nine seasons, there will not be a National Pro Fastpitch champion crowned. Game 2 of the best-of-three NPF Championship Series was officially canceled late Sunday after a day of rain and delays made the field unplayable. League officials later ruled it was not possible to continue the tournament between the Chicago Bandits and the USSSA Pride of Florida, and declared no champion would be crowned.

With a steady rain coming down all night, Game 2 of the National Pro Fastpitch Championship game between the Chicago Bandits and USSSA Prude was washed out, and NPF officials were in discussions to cancel the rest of the 2012 series.

With superstar pitchers Monica Abbott and Cat Osterman locked in a pitching duel, the Chicago Bandits captured Game 1 of the NPF Championships Series with a 2-1 victory over the USSSA Pride. Game 2 is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday. If the Pride wins Game 2, the two teams will meet for a decisive Game 3 at 6 p.m. Sunday.
