Mundelein weighing go-kart plan, but some trustees have concerns May 14, 2013 12:00 AM
A proposal for an outdoor go-kart track in Mundelein is moving forward despite reservations from several village board members. Safety was a big concern for trustees reviewing the plan Monday. So was noise from the gas-powered vehicles, 10 of which would be allowed to race simultaneously.

Stevenson moved to a sparking 10-0 in the North Suburban Conference with a 25-16, 19-25, 25-11 win over Mundelein in boys volleyball on Tuesday.

Despite 3 errors, Stevenson was able to roll by North Suburban Conference Lake Division champion Mundelein 7-1 Tuesday. A steady stream of hits helped. The Patriots tallied 9 hits, thanks to a 3-for-3 effort out of Jimmy Marchese, who got one of his hits to go for a double. Zach Novoselsky drove in 2 runs while going 3-for-4 and Eli Greenspon also finished with 2 RBI. Pitcher Mitchell Goll got the win for Stevenson, which improves to 17-10. He gave up only 1 walk over six innings.
St. Viator, Vernon Hills to meet for 2A regional title May 14, 2013 12:00 AM
St. Viator and Vernon Hills started out their girls soccer postseasons with victories in opening-round games of the Class 2A state tournament on Tuesday afternoon. Fourth-seeded St. Viator shut out No. 13 Amundsen 8-0 in the first semifinal, and No. 5 Vernon Hills picked up a forfeit win over No. 12 Mather in the other semifinal in Amundsen regional action at Chicago's Winnemac Stadium. St. Viator (10-7) next plays Vernon Hills (10-4-2) in the regional championship at 10 a.m. Saturday at Winnemac Stadium.

New rules would allow Mundelein High students to use cell phones May 13, 2013 12:00 AM
Mundelein High School students would be able to use their cellphones in the cafeteria and hallways under new conduct rules being considered for the 2013-14 term. The District 120 board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the school, 1350 W. Hawley St., to consider the new rules.
Lake Co. sheriff’s deputy charged with solicitation, obstruction of justice May 13, 2013 12:00 AM
A Lake County Sheriff's deputy is suspended without pay after he was charged Friday with solicitation of a sex act and obstruction of justice. Eric Francke, a five-year department veteran, was arrested as part of a one-month investigation Mundelein police launched after arresting two men on allegations they forced a downstate woman to work as a prostitute.

On Monday in Lincolnshire, Mundelein's Mitch Schulewitz was handed the ball to secure a Lake Division title for the Mustangs. And the UIC-bound right-hander was brilliant, stopping Stevenson on three singles. He needed to be that good. That's because his mound opponent, Iowa-bound Matt Allen, was almost as sharp. Allen at least can tell a story about how his team committed 4 errors in the first inning yet allowed just one runner to score. Mundelein (24-3) clinched North Suburban Conference Lake Division title with a 3-0 win.
