Libertyville, Mundelein battle to drawApr 29, 2014 12:00 AM
It seems like every girls soccer game in the North Suburban Lake Division is a battle. More than bragging rights will be on the line when the Libertyville and Mundelein baseball teams play their home-and-home series next week. A friendly wager has been made between Libertyville Mayor Terry Weppler and Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz. At a meeting last week, they were talking about how well their high school baseball teams are doing this season. Signature moments for Lake Zurich frosh PereiraApr 25, 2014 12:00 AM
Before Matt Pereira ran off — because running is what the Lake Zurich freshman does — a classmate made a request. “Matt,” a senior Bear shouted to an exhausted Pereira on Lake Zurich’s track Friday. “Before I leave for college, make sure you sign something for me.” Pereira had just clocked a time of 9:18.19 in the 3,200-meter run, breaking the meet record in the sixth annual Lake Zurich invite and setting the school record, as well. The skinny kid is quickly becoming a big man on campus — and perhaps in the state, for that matter. Heck, maybe his autograph is indeed worth seeking.

In an effort to make high school football safer, the IHSA announced Tuesday that full pads (and hence full contact drills and scrimmages) would be prohibited during summer workouts.
