    More than 100 Mundelein-area students will compete in the first Mayor's Cup Math Challenge on Sunday at Mundelein High School. Mayor Steve Lentz came up with the idea because he thought a math contest would inspire kids to compete and bring attention to the growing educational focus on science, technology, engineering and math.

    Mundelein third-graders jumped rope on one leg, in pairs, skipping and in threes during physical education class in an effort to raise money to fight heart disease on Tuesday. Students at Mechanics Grove School participated in Jump Rope for Heart to raise money for the American Heart Association.

    Andy Henrikson, assistant superintendent for human resources for Lake Forest Elementary District 67 and Lake Forest High School District 115, has been hired to replace Mundelein District 75 Superintendent Cynthia Heidorn, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

    Mundelein District 75 has revised its crisis plan and is planning an intruder drill this spring. Essentially, the adjustments allow the district to better align its response with that of local authorities, clearly defining the roles of various people in a crisis situation, according to Superintendent Cynthia Heidorn. "What we've done now is just adjusted (the plan) so it matches the National Incident Management System and our response will be coordinated," she said.

    Sharing a bilingual coordinator is one of the ways Mundelein District 75 and Fremont District 79 are trying to be more efficient and keep costs down. The districts, which have been working together for more than a year, also share a bookkeeper and transportation for special needs students.
