    About a dozen classes from five schools took part in the Kane County Farm Bureau's 31st annual Ag Days at Mooseheart near Batavia. Presentations were made by farmers and presenters from many facets of the agriculture industry.

    The 2014 Mooseheart’s Holiday Lights Show set a record for the number of visitors to view the lights displays. The show, which was open Nov. 28-Dec. 31, was viewed by 10,133 carloads of visitors, more than 2,000 ahead of the previous-best of 8,100, established in 2012.

    Bob Miller has portrayed Santa Claus at Mooseheart with a huge team of St. Charles East students as his elves. He also has been Santa with a group of Haines Middle School students as his gift-bearing assistants. Though retired, his annual trips to Mooseheart continue, and on Dec. 19, he donned the red suit and white beard and delivered gifts to Mooseheart’s elementary-aged children for the 11th year.

    For 13 years, McHenry Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 691 has expanded its Thanksgiving guest list to include U.S. Navy recruits at Great Lakes Naval Station and also Mooseheart students and family teachers. For Thanksgiving this year the McHenry Moose provided dinner for more than 50 service personnel and another 40 students and family teachers, and that meant the lodge was full of thankful people.

The result has been only two wins, which both came last year. On Saturday, however, the Warriors took a big step in becoming a more complete team. Not only did they win 13-12 at Mooseheart, but they did so with a running game and defense.

    Many roads came to an end on Saturday when Mooseheart lifted the Class 1A state championship trophy. For the Ramblers boys basketball team, the 63-47 victory over Heyworth ended a journey that started in November, not far from Peoria, at the Canton Thanksgiving tournament. The team’s pathway ended with a 29-3 record.

    Mooseheart’s historic boys basketball season is going to end on the largest stage possible. The Ramblers used a strong second half to defeat Unity 74-61 on Friday at Peoria Carver Arena and move into Saturday’s IHSA Class 1A state championship game. Mooseheart sits 32 minutes from the school’s first team title.
