Assisted living facility to open next month in Cary May 25, 2012 12:00 AM
Three Oaks Assisted Living, the first facility built in Illinois by Spectrum Retirement Communities, is slated to open next month in Cary. It has 59 units for assisted living, including studios, one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms, plus 21 studios in the memory care wing, which offers intensive care for people who suffer from diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer's and advanced Parkinson's.

No injuries in Crystal Lake townhouse fire May 25, 2012 12:00 AM
A fire in a five-unit Crystal Lake townhouse building caused about $450,000 in damage but no injuries midday Thursday. Nine residents from three units in the 1200 block of Walnut Glen Drive were displaced, but no one was hurt. Red Cross was called to assist them.

Police looking for Algonquin bank robber May 24, 2012 12:00 AM
Algonquin police are asking the public's help in identifying a man who robbed the Fifth Third Bank on Randall Road on Wednesday afternoon. The man, described as 30 to 40 years old, wearing a baseball cap and possibly Hispanic, approached the teller at about 4:45 p.m. and announced a robbery was taking place. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was hurt.

Algonquin condo developer may settle for apartments May 23, 2012 12:00 AM
Does it matter if Riverside Plaza in Algonquin ends up being a rental development rather than a condo building as originally planned? Members of the Algonquin downtown planning study steering committee had a variety of opinions on the matter, which was debated by Algonquin trustees on Tuesday night. Developer John Breugelmans told trustees that he just can't get the $8.5 million in financing he needs to finish the condo project, but he'd be able get financing for an apartment project.
