On Friday the Fire completed the long-rumored trade of the MLS rights to Robbie Rogers to Los Angeles, getting Long Grove native from the Galaxy in return, a source confirmed. The deal has not yet been announced officially, but the Galaxy has called a “player acquisition” press conference for Saturday. On Thursday the Fire reacquired central defender Bakary Soumare from Philadelphia for a second-round draft pick.

Fire owner Andrew Hauptman and president of soccer operations Javier Leon came away very impressed with midfielder Robbie Rogers during a lunch meeting Tuesday in Los Angeles with Rogers and his agent. Rogers, whose MLS rights are held by the Fire, has been training recently with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Rogers retired from soccer in February after announcing he is gay. He had been playing in England and is now out of contract.
