  • Fix elementary schools or build anew? Lisle candidates weigh in Mar 18, 2015 2:48 PM
    One candidate for school board in Lisle Unit District 202 says it could be time to build a new school to replace the district’s aging elementaries, Schiesher and Tate Woods. Incumbent Anne Blaeske says a new school is the district’s best option, but not all of the four candidates seeking three seats in the April 7 election agree with Blaeske when it comes to the future of the schools built in 1962 and 1959.

    All-day kindergarten is something all four candidates for school board seats in Lisle Unit District 202 would like the district to implement. Beyond that, incumbents Anne Blaeske and Darryl Franklin and newcomers Joanne Haldeman and Wendy Nadeau have different ideas for programs they think the district should start. The four candidates are seeking three available seats in the April 7 election to represent the district, which includes Tate Woods and Schiesher elementary schools, Lisle Junior High and Lisle High School.

  • Lisle schools reach out to community in Vision 202 Jan 14, 2015 2:35 PM
    Lisle Unit District 202 is launching a program called Vision 202 with an eye toward working with the community to build a strong future for the district and its students. The community engagement process will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, with the first of five scheduled Vision 202 sessions. The first meeting, to be held at Lisle Junior High School, 5207 Center Ave., will feature a State of the District presentation by Superintendent Keith Filipiak.

  • Lisle High School athletes bond with elementary students at pep rally Sep 25, 2014 5:46 PM
    Lisle High School football players, cheerleaders and the Lion mascot visited Schiesher Elementary School Thursday to kick up some school spirit before the football team’s Homecoming game. The elementary school students got to hear from head football coach Paul Parpet, learn the players’ positions and watch the cheerleaders perform. Parpet also led the energetic youngsters in cheers during the rally.

On Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Sharp came to the school to say thanks. miliar with compares to the NHL’s penalty box. “Being in the penalty box is just like getting detention," Sharp told the students.

     
  • Fate of charter appeal uncertain May 29, 2013 11:49 AM
    When Governor Pat Quinn signed a one-year moratorium on the establishment of new virtual charter schools into law, suburban administrators expected an end to the appeal process currently under way for one such school. But that may not be the case. Attorneys on one side argue the commission has a legal responsibility to complete the appeal while those on the other side say the commission no longer has authority to approve the virtual charter school. A decision is expected this week.

     
  • Lisle dad pleads guilty to harassing daughters’ coach Apr 30, 2013 7:48 PM
    A Lisle man pleaded guilty to a felony harassment charge Tuesday for threatening to kill a high school volleyball coach who benched his daughter. John Kasik, 61, was sentenced to 24 months of probation and 20 days in the DuPage County sheriff's work alternative program.

    After his daughter was benched at a regional match, a Lisle man threatened to kill a high school volleyball coach and rape the coach's family members, prosecutors said Monday. John Kasik, 61, also is accused of battering the Lisle Senior High School athletic director during a confrontation at school offices.
