    When Michael Ding, a 16-year-old who will be a senior at Naperville North High School in the fall, approached Jen Ohzourk about the possibility of starting a chess club at the Lisle Public Library, he wasn’t expecting his program idea would be launching only a couple months later. “I was actually really surprised when Jen said ‘yes’ so quickly instead of saying she would think about it,” Ding said. “She was just as enthusiastic about it as me, which made me confident that this program would be a success.”

    You've been waiting over half an hour for a seat. It's incredibly crowded because you came at a peak hour, and everyone seems to be taking their time. Just as you're starting to get frustrated, the buzzer in your hand lights up and vibrates, alerting you that a space has opened up. No, you're not at a restaurant during the dinner rush — you're at the library. Restaurant-style buzzers are just the newest addition to Lisle Library, introduced at the beginning of June.

Has it really been that long? "Dickens at 200" will examine Dickens' birth and early, formative years, then glide over to the days when he was writing his powerful and famous novels.

     
  • Lisle Library custodian pleads guilty to stealing books Oct 27, 2011 5:05 PM
    A Glen Ellyn man has been banned from the Lisle Public Library after pleading guilty to stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of books, DVDs and other materials while working there as a custodian, authorities said Thursday. James F. Jackson, 44, also must serve two years of probation and pay $2,500 in restitution.
