Lincolnshire boy 2nd in National Geographic Bee May 22, 2013 12:00 AM
A seventh-grader from the Northwest suburbs placed second in the 25th annual National Geographic Bee on Wednesday in Washington, D.C. Conrad Oberhaus, 13, a student at Daniel Wright Junior High in Lincolnshire, earned a $15,000 college scholarship for his effort.

A student at a Lincolnshire school advanced Monday to the finals of the National Geographic Bee. Conrad Oberhaus, a seventh-grader at Daniel Wright Junior High School, will compete on Wednesday for a $25,000 college scholarship. "His classmates helped quiz him, and he's had a lot of support from his teachers and his parents. We're all very excited to be behind him and wish him the best," District 103 Superintendent Scott Warren said.

Schools also may fail to specify which ages of students are allowed snacks. But a Lombard mom challenged the system -- and won. "It is in the best interests of students to have a snack."

The Toro Company announced that Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 won top prize in the "Green Spaces Make Great Places" grant program and will use the $7,000 grant to renovate the landscape and hardscape surrounding the playground at Laura B. Sprague Elementary School in Lincolnshire.

The Lincolnshire Elementary District 103 PTO has introduced the creation of the Community Parent Network (CPN). CPN is a collaboration of district parent groups dedicated to providing learning opportunities for parents K-12 and is a Stevenson Foundation committee that serves Stevenson High School as well as its sender school districts 96, 102, 103, 73, 76, 79. CPN sponsors quality speakers who will share effective parenting strategies.
