    The merger of Advocate Health Care and Northshore University Health Care System announced Friday aims to create the largest health care system in Illinois that will focus heavily on outpatient and home care and provide more technology to communicate with patients. The merger could be approved later this year when the newly christened Advocate Northshore Health Partners will have a combined 16 hospitals in Chicago, the suburbs and central Illinois.

A language change in an agreement between the village and other taxing bodies regarding a special financing district will ensure the village has funds available to build a parking deck on the west side of Milwaukee Avenue. "We're trying to get it done as quickly as possible," said Mayor Terry Weppler.

    The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center reports that a 48-year-old male resident of Gurnee tested positive for West Nile virus. He was hospitalized and released. This is the county’s first West Nile virus human case in 2014. Last year, there were six confirmed human cases in Lake County.
