Sheriff seeks help locating potential victims Jan 17, 2013 12:00 AM
Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart is asking for the public’s help in locating additional victims of a man suspected of criminal sexual assault. Brian Thurman, 28, of Melrose Park, was charged Sunday with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault. He is being held at Cook County jail on $480,000 bond.

Barrington's girls basketball assured itself of at least a .500 record in its first appearance in the prestigious Dundee-Crown Charger Classic.And with a win today at 5 p.m. against Mother McAuley, the Fillies would end up in fifth place with a 3-1 record.Coach Babbi Barreiro watched her young Fillies (11-6) improve to 2-1 in the 30th edition of the Classic by posting a 38-22 win over New Trier on Friday afternoon.

Averaging a school-record 73.3 points per game, the Rolling Meadows girls basketball team has proved to be one of the toughest teams in the state this season. Now the Mustangs (12-0) will compete in one of the toughest Christmas tournaments in the state. The Montini Christmas Tournament includes a field of four undefeated and a fifth got beat for the first time last week. All are generally regarded among the top 20 in the Chicago area.

77th state House incumbent Angelo "Skip" Saviano isn't taking his challenger lightly. The Elmwood Park Republican, who has been a state representative since 1994, said he has been campaigning and meeting elected officials in the new areas of his redrawn district for the past year in preparation for the Nov. 6 election. Saviano is facing Kathleen Willis of Addison, who is running as a Democrat despite pulling Republican ballots in five primary elections between 2002 and 2010.

Most Cook County tax rates up 10% or more Jun 26, 2012 12:00 AM
Cook County Clerk David Orr's office Tuesday released the list of 2011 tax rates for more than 1,500 taxing agencies, with nearly all of the municipalities, schools and park districts showing increases of 10% or more. Though property values in the North and Northwest suburbs are down, the vast majority of homeowners will not see lower property tax bills, which are expected to hit mailboxes in early July for the first time in decades.
