  • Overstepping bounds on matters of life, death Oct 20, 2014 5:01 AM
A Palatine letter to the editor: Ezekiel Emanuel hopes to die at 75, as he states in his recent Atlantic Monthly article, from which I am liberally referencing and commenting. His main reason is because we become less productive as we age. He says we are remembered as feeble, ineffectual, even pathetic, and that our living too long places real emotional weights on our progeny. Leaving them with memories of our frailty is the ultimate tragedy.

  • Four reasons to leave Illinois Oct 20, 2014 5:01 AM
An Arlington Heights letter to the editor: Three reasons to leave Illinois are taxes, taxes, taxes. We are near or at the top in each of these! Property tax, state income tax and sales tax.

  • Herald must be doing the right thing Oct 20, 2014 5:01 AM
A Chicago letter to the editor: I am a Chicago reader of the Daily Herald and pick it up from a box on Chicago Avenue. Just wanted to let you know that I think it’s great that the paper received the Inland Community Leader Award. You must be doing the right thing, so keep it up. I find many items and stories in the Daily Herald that I don’t get in the Chicago papers. Often they pique my interest.

An Arlington Heights letter to the editor: Bruce Rauner’s recent endorsement by the Daily Herald ignores the obvious and serious conflict when a candidate panders to individual self-interests and then claims to be fiscally responsible.

Letter to the editor: The current problem with Metropolis, says William Bishop of Barrington Hills, is that Arlington Heights is throwing money at the performing arts center without any clear vision of how it should go forward.

A Grayslake letter to the editor: As the party’s leader, would it not be incumbent on fellow Democrats running for office to have the president actively campaigning for them?

  • Sleepy Hollow tax hike grows bigger Oct 19, 2014 12:01 AM
A Sleepy Hollow letter to the editor: Back in June, the Daily Herald reported that Sleepy Hollow may ask voters for a 77 percent tax hike. Well folks during the summer, village officials managed to get even greedier by upping the ante from an additional $400,000 to approximately $428,000, or a proposed 82 percent tax increase in village property taxes.

  • Democratic America will survive Obama Oct 19, 2014 12:01 AM
A Wheaton letter to the editor: The mid-term election means a Republican Senate 51 percent majority. Don’t hold your breath for the next two years waiting for any substantive legislation. But Congressional-Presidential gridlock got us used to that.

  • Home rule would mean higher taxes Oct 19, 2014 5:01 AM
A Lake Zurich letter to the editor: In 1998, the residents of Lake Zurich voted 70 percent against home rule, so I again say: Lock your doors, close your windows, hide your wallets and don’t cash your paychecks because they’re coming after you and me for our money and power.

  • Being rich OK if you’re a Democrat? Oct 18, 2014 5:01 AM
A Mount Prospect letter to the editor: It seems like 100 times a day every TV station broadcasts Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn’s campaign ad disparaging Republican candidate Bruce Rauner because Rauner is rich, as if being rich is bad. My guess is 98 percent of Americans wish they were rich. (The other 2 percent are already rich.)
