Lake Park holds off upstart Geneva May 23, 2012 12:00 AM
When Lake Park began its current streak of four straight regional championships in 2009, the Geneva boys volleyball program did not yet exist. The champions of Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division (Lancers) and River (Vikings, shared with St. Charles East) met Wednesday night with the Larkin regional championship on the line. Lake Park and its tradition had a little too much firepower for the new kids on the block in a 25-13, 23-25, 25-17 victory.

Baseball/Scouting DuPage County’s Class 3A/4A sectionals May 22, 2012 12:00 AM
Neuqua Valley is scorching hot and could make a run like the one that saw the Wildcats finish third at Class 4A state in 2008. Hinsdale South is a No. 2 seed but hasn't had a lengthy postseason since it made the super sectionals in 2004. In Class 3A Glenbard South is trying to turn a strong end to the regular season into a sectional title at home.

Bartlett finally claims share of UEC Valley May 18, 2012 12:00 AM
The Bartlett softball team really didn't need a lot of motivation. But Kayla Haberstich's line drive home run over the left field fence in the top of the second inning sure didn't hurt. In the throes of a 3-game losing streak and in jeopardy of not at least sharing the Upstate Eight Valley championship that many had already handed to them a week ago, the Hawks responded Friday with a convincing 9-3 win at Lake Park. Bartlett shares the division title with Waubonsie Valley, the first conference title for No. 2 Bartlett since the Hawks went 20-0 in the Upstate Eight in 2006, prior to the league being in divisions.

Focused Fecho is one fierce foe May 7, 2012 12:00 AM

Committed to Purdue, the left-hander is 18-1 with a 0.95 ERA and 173 strikeouts with just 43 hits allowed in 118 innings. At the plate, shes hitting .438 with 7 homers and 27 RBI.
