After months of freezing temperatures, snow and ice, the early spring rain made the rolling pavement glisten as runners in the 5K and 10K events made their way through the Woods Creek Lake neighborhood in the mature section of town.

    Lake in the Hills officials are trying to raise money for a memorial to honor veterans. The village has allocated $40,000 as seed money for the project and collected roughly $2,000 through fundraising efforts since last fall, said village board member Russ Ruzanski. “We need a substantial amount more than that,” he said. Ruzanski said it could cost up to $250,000 to erect the memorial, including in-kind donations.

Ela Soccer becomes the First soccer club in Illinois to receive the 5-Star Competitive Club designation and the only soccer club to have received both awards.

Though once considered a normal part of growing up, reports in the news have shown that bullying can have serious consequences. In the 2012 Illinois Youth Survey, 50 percent of McHenry County eighth-graders surveyed said another student at school bullied them by calling them names in the past 12 months. Twenty-four percent of McHenry County 10th-graders said they were cyberbullied through the Internet or through text messages.
