    For a second straight year, York’s 32-team field will dominate the local boys basketball landscape this holiday tournament season. Beyond the Dukes’ 41st annual Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament — featuring 10 DuPage County representatives — teams will spread out among 12 tournaments from Wheeling to Centralia.

    This wasn’t a normal meeting between DuPage Valley Conference boys basketball teams, which might explain Tuesday’s ragged play between Lake Park and Naperville Central. The Lancers proved to be a little less ragged, especially in the second half while pulling away to a 45-34 win in an Addison Trail Invite game played in Roselle. Lake Park’s fourth straight win marked the fourth time it’s allowed fewer than 40 points. Two other times the Lancers allowed only 41.

    Lincoln Way Co-Op won the Al Galatte invitational at Rolling Meadows, with Barrington second and Prospect third thanks to some stellar performances. The Fillies’ Molly Blanke captured vault honors with a 9.35 and teammate Kseniya Kisleva won the uneven bars. Prospect junior Megan Donner finished second on floor, just edged out by Sammi Lococo of Carmel.

    Lake Park High School will host a number of festive community events this month beginning with its 33rd annual Holiday Craft Fair. The holiday craft show will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in the field house of the West Campus, 500 W. Bryn Mawr, Roselle. Nearly 100 crafters will offer handcrafted gift items for sale.

     
  • Guards deliver for Fremd against Lake Park Nov 26, 2014 10:24 PM
    Fremd’s guard play was the difference in the Vikings’ 53-43 win over Lake Park in the third round of the 29th annual Chuck Mitchell Tournament at Fenton on Wednesday. Guards Zach Schoffstall, Xavier Williams, Payton Kim and Kyle Sliwa combined for 26 points. Schoffstall led the way with 16 points and 4 assists to help Fremd improve to 3-0. The win puts the Vikings in the championship game Friday at 1:30 against Elk Grove (3-0), a 65-44 winner over Holy Trinity.

    It’s not everyday that 6-foot 4 Streamwood goalkeeper Sergio Blanco has an opposing keeper trying to screen him in the box that’s just as tall as him. But that’s what it came down to in the final seconds in Streamwood’s dramatic 2-1 Class 3A Barrington supersectional win over Lake Park Tuesday night. And before the Sabres (17-5-2) could punch their ticket to state they had to stop a Lake Park (20-2-4) corner kick from the left side with the clocked stopped at 18.2 seconds left that featured every Lancer in the box, including goalie Michael Jasiak.

Next up for Lancers coach Anthony Passi’s team will be the host Saxons, who defeated Glenbard North later Tuesday.
