Leaving a legacy built to last Jun 6, 2013 12:00 AM
Christian Taugner sure knows how to cement a legacy. In one day — one game against East Aurora — the Lake Park senior pitcher put his stamp on the program by becoming its career leader in victories. Adding to the history, he also broke his own record for strikeouts in a game with 15 and threw a no-hitter. In simpler terms, he became the greatest pitcher in Lake Park history.

Mazzie steps down at Lake Park May 30, 2013 12:00 AM
As much as he valued his time in the dugout, the pull home was too great for Tom Mazzie. Lake Park's softball coach is stepping down after five seasons as varsity coach of the Lancers. Mazzie's reasoning was simple. The time away from his family was too taxing. Mazzie and his wife, Michelle, who live in Naperville, have two children — Estella, 7, and 5-year-old Everett. Everett was diagnosed with autism as a young toddler.

St. Charles East’s Starai blanks Lake Park May 29, 2013 12:00 AM
Lake Park sent its Brown University bound ace Christian Taugner to the mound in the Class 4A St. Charles East sectional semifinals Wednesday, but the Saints countered with a Star of their own. Matt Starai handcuffed the Lancers for the second time this season, tossing a 3-hit shutout aided by three double plays in a 6-0 victory over top-seeded Lake Park (27-11). No. 4 St. Charles East (25-11) will play the winner of Thursday's semifinal between Wheaton North and Bartlett for the sectional title at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Pagan, Bartlett shut down Lake Park May 25, 2013 12:00 AM
Keep it low. It seemed simple enough. Junior Holly Pagan had to work out of some stressful situations, but she was able to execute the plan and keep Lake Park hitters off balance while silencing the Lancers’ potent offense as defending Class 4A state runner-up Bartlett captured its second consecutive regional title by taking a 3-1 victory over Lake Park Saturday in the Class 4A Bartlett regional final. The Hawks (27-9) now advance to play St. Charles East on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the St. Charles East sectional. The Saints beat Bartlett 4-1 on April 9.
