  • Sustained effort lifts Lake Forest past Carmel Apr 3, 2014 10:22 PM
Keeping your focus can go a long way toward success. Not keeping it can have the opposite effect, as Carmel Catholic’s girls soccer team demonstrated Thursday afternoon. Thus Carmel Catholic lost to visiting Lake Forest 2-0 in a nonconference game in Mundelein.

  • Epic OT effort favors Brunson (56 points), Stevenson Feb 21, 2014 11:34 PM
When the final shot attempt from Lake Forest senior Noah Karras hit the front of the rim with the clock about to expire, only then could Stevenson junior standout Jalen Brunson truly appreciate the magnitude of his night, and of what he and his team accomplished. Friday night in the North Suburban Lake Division finale between the Patriots and host Scouts, Brunson and Lake Forest junior Evan Boudreaux had games that no one in the overflow crowd at Lake Forest will ever forget. In front of a high-profile coaching audience that featured Michigan coach John Beilein, Purdue coach Matt Painter and Indiana coach Tom Crean, Brunson went for a single-game school record 56 points — and the Patriots needed every one of them in a heart-pounding 95-93 win over Lake Forest. Brunson’s record setting night also put him atop the all-time scoring list at Stevenson, passing Chris Coleman. Brunson now has 1,642 points and counting.

  • Lake Forest outlasts St. Viator in OT Feb 8, 2014 9:20 PM
It was Ore time, part three, in Lake Forest on Saturday. But the ending wasn’t quite as satisfying. For the third time in the last four weeks, St. Viator’s Ore Arogundade either won the game or sent it into overtime with a last-second shot. Saturday it was 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 74. But unlike in the other two games, the Lions did not come out on top as Lake Forest outscored St. Viator 13-4 in the extra session to post an 87-78 victory.

  • Lake Forest’s Boudreaux makes big trouble for Lake Zurich Jan 24, 2014 11:29 PM
A well-executed play by Lake Zurich’s big boys couldn’t upstage Lake Forest’s big-time player, who’s not so small himself. Evan Boudreaux piled up game highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds, Cal Miller added 13 points while helping hold Bears leading scorer Mike Travlos to single digits, and host Lake Forest pulled away in the second half to post a 61-46 win in North Suburban Lake Division action Friday night. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Boudreaux hit a pair of 3-pointers, and his 2 free throws, after his own steal under the Scouts basket, with 1.3 seconds left in the opening half had his team up 26-20. • Big night for Dillon, Stevenson Jan 17, 2014 11:34 PM
The basket — a pump fake to get his defender airborne and then a drive and finish — was vintage Jalen Brunson. Only it wasn’t Jalen Brunson who made the slick move during Stevenson’s 66-50 win over visiting Lake Forest in the North Suburan Conference Lake Division basketball game Friday night. It was Nick Dillon, who looks like he could be a bodyguard for Brunson, the Patriots’ star. “I learn from the best,” the 6-foot-3, 265-pound Dillon said with a smile. Stevenson’s best was at his best again. Brunson dropped in a game-high 25 points, including four 3-pointers, while also coming up with 5 steals and taking a pair of charges. Fellow guard Connor Cashaw added 15 points and 12 rebounds, as Stevenson (14-1, 4-1) rebounded from its loss a week earlier to Zion-Benton.
