    About 900 teens and parents will converge on Vernon Hills High School next week for a college-planning fair aimed at students with disabilities. The regional event, called Choices, will provide families with information about the college search process, transitioning to college, technology and other important subjects.

    Timothy Lim wasn’t alone in having to deal with the rainy, foggy and wet conditions as the day went on Monday in the Class 3A Lake Forest boys golf sectional. But it sure didn’t seem to affect him as much. The Barrington sophomore used a steady approach to get past the weather conditions and card an even-par 72 on the 6,589-yard course at Lake Bluff. Lim’s effort helped Barrington shoot 299 for the second straight time as the Broncos earned a spot in the Class 3A state touranment. They finished second, behind Lake Forest (293) and ahead of St. Charles East (306) — or at least it looks that way, pending the official conclusion of the sectional now scheduled for Tuesday.

    Jori Radtke was nearly unstoppable for Stevenson’s girls volleyball team in the Glenbrook North tournament. The Patriots wrapped up play by outlasting Morton 30-32, 25-14, 25-19, as Radtke slammed 14 kills for the third time in four matches. She also had 14-kill efforts against Glenbrook North and Glenbrook North’s JV. Stevenson (18-13) won its final two matches, including a 25-23, 26-24 decision over Buffalo Grove. Radtke’s 7 kills led the way against the Bison.

    A conservative ground and pound was topped by a pair of dazzling aerial strikes and a defensive 6. With playoff hopes at stake against a potent offense, Lake Zurich found the right formula at Lake Forest. The visiting Bears combined for 408 yards of total offense, outlasting a tough Scouts squad 35-24 in North Suburban Lake action at Varsity Field.

    Girls volleyball Carmel d. Lake Forest: Grace Schofield slammed 10 kills and served 2 aces, as the Corsairs won the nonconference match 25-11, 25-21. Carmel (21-4) also received 4 kills apiece from Grace Butler and Allie Wayland. Butler and Morgan Meade (3 kills) each dished out 11 assists. Schofield and Sierra Kepski led Carmel in digs with 7 apiece. Kepski, Meade and Elizabeth Tworek also delivered a pair of aces. Jenna Dethlefsen and Ashley Williams had 6 and 5 kills, respectively, for Lake Forest.

    Girls volleyball Grayslake Central d. Woodstock North: Allie Daul and Taylor O’Neill each had 8 kills for the Rams, who won 25-21, 25-22 in Fox Valley Fox Division action. Hayley Peterson and Dani Sentz totaled 10 and 9 digs, respectively, for Grayslake Central (18-13, 6-3). Juliana Frusolone dished out 19 assists on 56-of-56 setting. Woodstock d. Grayslake North: One night after losing to Grayslake Central in three sets, the Knights lost 25-19, 22-25, 25-19 in the Fox Valley Fox match. Grayslake North received 14 digs from Stefani Kielwitz, 12 assists from Char Gaunky and 7 kills from Bailee Hardy. Kendall Buchman had 6 kills and 9 assists for the Knights. Lake Forest d. Loyola: The Scouts won the nonconference match 25-19, 26-24, as Jenna Dethlefsen and Meghan McGrail each slammed 7 kills. Scouts sophomore Emma Patlovich set 41 of 42 with 16 assists, while also notching 2 aces and 5 digs. Sophomore libero Brigid Brennan had 9 digs and 2 aces.

    For the last eight months, since Bryan McNulty was named head coach, Warren’s football team has talked about finishing games. Not that executing the game plan is ever easy, mind you. Take Thursday night, when the host Blue Devils found themselves leading once-beaten Lake Forest 20-0 after three quarters. One 80-yard drive here, one botched snap on a punt there, and suddenly the Scouts were within a touchdown and extra point of taking the lead. But looking like a playoff-bound team, Warren came up with its fourth turnover of the night and one last defensive stand, and escaped with a 27-14 victory.

    Stevenson quarterback Willie Bourbon threw for 329 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Patriots pulled away in the second half for a 34-17 victory over visiting Lake Forest. Cameron Green caught two of those TD passes as Stevenson improved to 4-0 on the season.

    For the second time in three days, Grayslake Central’s boys golf team pulled out a close decision. Kyle Reynolds and Josh Schneider each fired a 42, and the Rams carded a 172 for a three-stroke win over Cary-Grove at Stonewall Orchard Golf Club on Thursday. Michael Murdy and Tommy Triggs added a 43 and 45, respectively, for Grayslake Central. On Tuesday at Stonewall Orchard, the Rams’ 167 bettered Huntley by one shot. Reynolds had a 40, while the winners also counted Cooper Brunk’s 41 and 43s by freshman Michael Sisk and Triggs. Mundelein d. Zion-Benton: At Steeple Chase, Ryan Magee fired a 1-under-par 35 for the host Mustangs (153), who won the North Suburban Lake match by 29 strokes. John Lentz (38) and Jeff Lee (39) also broke 40 for Mundelein. Brett Parola and Zach Zentz carded matching 41s for the Mustangs. Lake Forest d. Warren: At Bittersweet, Jack Garrity and Quinn Gaughan each shot a 37, as the visiting Scouts (156) downed the Blue Devils (169) in North Suburban Lake action. Jack Hansen’s 39 paced Warren. Lakes d. Grant: At Fox Lake Country Club, the North Suburban Prairie match went to the Eagles (187), who also boasted the medalist thanks to Mike Barry’s 40. Michael Maye shot a 51 for Grant (213).

    Libertyville’s boys soccer team won its third straight game with a 1-0 win over Glenbrook South in nonconference action in Glenview on Thursday. Sam Kratzer scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Trey Touhey in the 61st minute. Sam Muchmore earned his second straight clean sheet with 3 saves. Vernon Hills 2, St. Catherines 1: At Carthage College, Chris White scored both goals for the Cougars (4-3), and Brennan Reback recorded the win in net with 5 saves. Deerfield 1, Stevenson 0: The Patriots (2-2-1) surrendered the game’s only goal in the second half. Wauconda 1, Crystal Lake Central 0: Hector Sanchez scored off an assist from Eric Berg in the opening half for the Bulldogs (3-3), who will play in the championship game of their own tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday against Marian Central. Shane Purcell earned the shutout with a 9-save effort. Lakes 2, Maine East 1: The Eagles’ Zach Espinosa scored on a penalty kick and assisted on Dave Milostan’s goal. Jack Monson made 10 saves in goal for Lakes (1-3-1), which captured its first win of the season. Lake Forest 2, Niles West 0: Parker Marsh and Keegan Filkin scored for the Scouts, with Matthew Mick and Paul Passalino picking up assists. Jan Roessler notched the shutout for Lake Forest (3-3).

    Ryan Magee fired a 37, and Mundelein’s boys golf team shot a 160 in edging host Warren (169) at Bittersweet Golf Club on Thursday. Mundelein also counted John Lentz’s 38, Tyler White’s 42 and Brett Parola’s 43. Warren was led by 42s from Orlando Avila, Matt Moran and Luke Maan de Kok. Lake Zurich d. Zion-Benton: At Lake Barrington Shores Country Club, the host Bears (171) beat the visiting Zee-Bees (183), as Matt Gadomski earned medalist honors with a 37. McHenry d. Grayslake North: At Renwood, the Warriors posted a 153 to beat the Knights (173). Jon Cesario paced Grayslake North with a 40. Lake Forest d. Antioch: On Wednesday at Lake Bluff Golf Club, Sam Brush’s 35 led the host Scouts (154) to the North Suburban Conference win. Antioch (177) was led by Dillon Kreutzer’s 42.
