    Consistent with a regional trend among community colleges, Harper College will ask its students to dig a little deeper into their pockets for the cost of a high education. The board of trustees last week unanimously approved increasing tuition by $2 per credit hour beginning in the summer 2013 term. For a full-time student taking 30 credit hours annually, that’s an additional $60 for a total of $3,735.

    Campton Hills trustees have given the go-ahead in their 2014 budget to have a village administrator. Ideally, they'd like to have a person hired by June, when the 2014 fiscal year starts. In coming months, the village's finance committee will hash out how much can be set aside and if that person is full- or part-time. Village President Patsy Smith has basically worn an administrator's hat for the last 5-plus years.

    Officials representing the Kiva Recovery Center, rejected by Campton Hills trustees, said they plan to take their proposal to the Kane County Board. Kiva had asked to be annexed into the village, which gave trustees the ability to negotiate numerous conditions. "We regret that the majority of the village board was unable to separate fact from fear,” a Kiva attorney said.
