The following tips can help you select a fresh tree for your home and keep it looking its best throughout the holiday season.”

  • Auction at Geneva church raises over $5,000 for local organizations Nov 25, 2014 2:58 PM
    The Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva raised more than $5,000 for local humanitarian organizations at its “Saturday Night Feverish” auction. More than 100 people packed the church’s historic sanctuary to bid on a variety of items, including baskets of donated goods and services from local businesses and church members. Funds raised are being divided equally between Lazarus House and Mutual Ground.

    Illinois authors who have self-published an adult fiction book may enter the second year of the Soon to be Famous Illinois Author project until Monday, Dec. 15. The Soon to be Famous Illinois Author project is being coordinated in collaboration with the Illinois Library Association and Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) and is supported by the American Library Association Digital Content Working Group, the Public Library Association (PLA), Illinois Heartland Library System.

    The Humanitarian Service Project of DuPage County is calling for donations of new toys and nonperishable food to support underprivileged children and families through its annual Christmas Offering. It has been putting gifts under the tree for local children in need since 1979. This year, it is projected to serve 350 families with nutritious groceries as well as provide 1600 children and 125 seniors with Christmas gifts.

Thirty five youth participated in a Parliamentary Procedure Jeopardy game created by Avni Patel, learned the importance of being a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer taught by Maddie Currie, Abby Daniels, Charlotte Roberts and parent volunteer Robbie Roberts.

  • CASA Kane County puts $25,000 grant to work for kids Nov 20, 2014 2:31 PM
    CASA Kane County, a local nonprofit organization that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children, was recently awarded a $25,000 grant from the UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS. The grant will be used to recruit, train, and supervise community volunteers who serve as the Court Appointed Special Advocate and Guardian ad Litem for children who have been abused or neglected in the Kane County juvenile court system.

    Albright Theatre Company will hold auditions for “The Mousetrap” by Agatha Christie at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 and Monday, Dec. 8. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Callbacks may be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, by invitation only.
