Kaneland Unit District 302 is one of 539 school districts across 44 of the 50 states in the U.S. and Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on the third annual AP District Honor Roll. Kaneland High School Principal Chip Hickman said, "This is a tremendous achievement for our high school. Our student's commitment to high achievement is evident through this honor and the leadership of our instructional staff has been inspirational."

Services set for Maple Park man killed by driver of stolen car Dec 5, 2012 12:00 AM
Visitation and funeral services are set Monday and Tuesday for a 2012 Kaneland High School graduate who was killed when his car was hit head on by a Wisconsin woman driving a car reported stolen from Wheaton. Zachary Bingham, 18, of Maple Park, planned to pursue a career in the trades as a welder and was taking classes at Elgin Community College.

Friends and teachers of Zachary Bingham, 18, of Maple Park, recall the 2012 Kaneland High School graduate as a skilled welder who volunteered and would do anything to help his friends. Bingham was killed Saturday when a Wisconsin woman with a long criminal record crashed into Bingham while she was driving a car stolen from Wheaton, police said.

The Kaneland school district has postponed routine replacement of its school buses for a few years, after the Great Recession hit. But even though money is still tight, it’s time to start thinking about buying at least five — preferably 10 — new buses, according to district administrators. The school board Monday approved adding $400,000 to the district’s financial-projection model. The projection for the district’s finances will be presented to the board for discussion in December.

Fearn Elementary School in North Aurora bounced back to the "pass" side of the school report cards, once again the only school in West Aurora District 129 to do so. Bell-Graham Elementary School in St. Charles joined that district's list of schools that failed to make "adequate yearly progress."

Two more local schools are giving their students the option of attending other schools this fall.Kaneland John Stewart Elementary School in Elburn and Rotolo Middle School in Batavia must offer the so-called “school choice” because of the results of standardized tests students took in the spring.School choice is required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act, which sets passing standards for schools and for subgroups of student types in those schools.Kaneland District 302 is dealing with the requirement for the first time. Kaneland John Stewart Elementary School is offering a choice after it failed to make adequate yearly progress because one of the school's subgroups — the economically disadvantaged — didn't have enough students score well in reading. Only 75.5 percent made the grade.

Kaneland teacher fights DUI arrest, sues police Jul 2, 2012 12:00 AM
A Kaneville science teacher has filed a federal lawsuit against Carpentersville police, claiming he was thrashed around in the back of a squad car after a July 4, 2010 arrest during "No Refusal" weekend in Elgin. Ryan Wlodek says police handcuffed him, but didn't put a seatbelt on him and purposefully sped up, braked and made sharp turns. His attorney also wants the case dismissed because the police failed to turn over a video of the arrest and police later said the department's computers crashed.

Les Miserables has a reputation. Its supposed to be one of the most difficult high school plays to produce. When done well, though, this tale of poverty, revolution and redepmtion is magnificent to behold. Kaneland High School will stage the musical this weekend. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 16-17, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18.
