But Morris’ Nick Evola induced a check-swing comebacker with Kaneland runners on first and second base to preserve a complete-game 4-2 victory over the Knights.

    It’s been a while since Chumbawamba hit the charts with “Tubthumping” — which featured the repeating lyrics “I get knocked down; but I get up again; you’re never gonna keep me down.” Without resorting to music, that’s essentially what St. Charles East girls soccer coach told his team before they took the Norris Stadium field to play Kaneland in a nonconference match on Saturday. He reminded his team of their 3-1 Friday night loss to Geneva, told them that good teams respond in adversity — and then demanded a response from his Saints.

  • Ege in fine form for BC; Kaneland wins at CL Central May 2, 2014 11:31 PM
    The rest of the hurdlers never had a chance against Burlington Central junior standout Lucas Ege in Friday’s 41st Annual Crystal Lake Central Invitational at Metcalfe Field. Ege won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.28 and claimed top honors in the 300 hurdles in 39.4. “This was good competition tonight and I will get better as the competition gets better,” said Ege. “I still have a lot of work to do before the sectionals.” Ege was one of the main reasons the Rockets finished second with a score of 91 points. Kaneland, which won its second straight title, overpowered the field with 160.5 points.

    Anthony Holubecki is only a sophomore but he also is considered the ace of Kaneland’s pitching staff. Holubecki (4-1) lived up to his top billing Monday afternoon, allowing just 2 hits while racking up 9 strikeouts in 6 innings of work during the Knights’ 2-0 Northern Illinois Big 12 East triumph over Yorkville (14-7, 4-2) in Maple Park.

  • Fox Valley area robotics team heads to world championship Apr 21, 2014 7:23 PM
    A team of 25 Fox Valley area high school students will compete in the FIRST Robotics World Finals this week in St. Louis. More than 2,700 teams made up of 68,000 high school students worldwide vied for a spot in the finals at regional, state and international competitions. The Fox Valley area team is among roughly 400 teams that qualified.

  • Morrow no-hits Geneva in spit doubleheader Apr 19, 2014 4:26 PM
    Geneva scored 9 runs in the second game of a doubleheader against Kaneland Saturday, and in its previous game this week the Vikings blasted 10 hits against one of the best pitchers they’ll see this year, Shannon Hohman from Waubonsie Valley. Which should tell you just how good Kaneland junior Angie Morrow pitched in the doubleheader opener Saturday. Morrow no-hit those hard-hitting Vikings, striking out six and walking one in a 3-0 victory.

     
  • Kaneland goes extra innings to beat Geneva Apr 19, 2014 5:30 PM
    Opportunity knocked repeatedly for both teams during Saturday’s nonconference baseball game between Geneva and Kaneland. The Knights (7-3) capitalized on their opportunities when it mattered most, pushing a run across without the benefit of a base hit to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and scored the game-winning run a couple innings later on an RBI single by sophomore catcher Joe Laudont during their 7-6, extra-inning victory over the Vikings (8-2) in Maple Park.

     
  • Kaneland wins West Aurora invite Apr 16, 2014 11:11 PM
    Even before it took the field on Wednesday against East Aurora, Kaneland’s girls soccer team knew it had sealed the West Aurora Invitational title. The Knights refused to relax against the Tomcats. Eight different players scored goals in an 8-1 victory that raised their record to 6-1.
