  • Wheeling takes control in MSL EastApr 23, 2014 12:00 AM
This time, fate favored Wheeling. The Wildcats narrowly missed out on a spot in the Mid-Suburban League girls water polo championship last year, as Hersey advanced to the title game based on divisional tie-breaking criterion. Wheeling didn’t want that to come into play this year, and had a chance to do something about it in its own pool Wednesday night as both the Wildcats and Huskies entered the game with 1 loss and 2 games left in the division. Wheeling won 7-5, thus assuring itself of a spot in the league championship game irrespective of the outcome of a final divisional game against Buffalo Grove.

Schocking finish as Schaumburg wins againApr 23, 2014 12:00 AM
Schaumburg’s Ryan Schocker jolted Conant on Thursday. I worked the count and then I had to get the right pitch. It was a 3-2 fastball and I just went with the pitch.” Fan was down 0-2 in the count with two outs but was able to coax a walk. He then advanced to second on a passed ball and scored easily on Schocker’s rip to right. The victory kept the Saxons (10-1, 5-0) atop the Mid-Suburban West and made a winner out of starter Brendan Beck, who improved to 4-0.
