Fox Valley could be showered in medals this weekend May 24, 2012 12:00 AM
The medal stand at the boys state track and field meet at Eastern Illinois University could be littered with Fox Valley area athletes this weekend. Among the brightest hopes to win state titles in Class 3A are Elgin's 800-meter relay team and Cary-Grove senior thrower Josh Freeman. Elgin seniors Terrell Campbell, Devante King, Derek Moorman and Dennis Moore will attempt to win the first state track title for their school since Tony Adams won back-to-back 440-yard dash titles in 1978 and 1979, according to IHSA records. The foursome set the school record in the 800-meter relay at the St. Charles North sectional (1:27.83).

The Jacobs baseball team's 8-4 victory over Huntley Thursday was partly a matter of Self-help. No. 3 Huntley led 3-0 after half an inning, but No. 2 Jacobs showed no panic. The Golden Eagles chipped away with single runs in the first and second innings before erupting for a 6-run third to pull away for an 8-4 victory in a Class 4A Huntley baseball regional semifinal.

Lein, Jacobs blank Crystal Lake South May 23, 2012 12:00 AM

Lein certainly didn't let nerves hinder her performance. The sophomore left-hander was simply outstanding in the pitchers circle, tossing a 5-hit shutout as second-seeded Jacobs knocked off third-seeded Crystal Lake South 4-0.

Jacobs wins first regional since 2005 May 19, 2012 12:00 AM
Usually, when Crystal Lake South and Jacobs play each other on the girls soccer field it is a closely contested low-scoring affair. This was not one of them. Strong-armed Jacobs blanks Dundee-Crown May 16, 2012 12:00 AM
Strong pitching has been the key to a successful season for the Jacobs baseball team, and that trait was on display once again in a 5-0 victory over District 300 rival Dundee-Crown in Carpentersville Wednesday. Two days after the Golden Eagles uncharacteristically allowed the Chargers 12 runs on 17 hits yet won 19-12, junior left-hander Max Rider and relievers Greg Mixon and Zac Camacho combined for a 4-hit shutout to complete the season sweep. It was the staffs sixth shutout of the season and it marked the 12th time Jacobs held an opponent to 2 runs or less.
