Itasca Dist. 10 bracing for budget shortfall May 9, 2012 12:00 AM
Officials in Itasca School District 10 will seek feedback this fall from the community on how to deal with a budget shortfall for next school year. School board President Kathryn Miller said the district is still required to provide the same number of government-mandated programs, but will receive fewer grants and reduced funds from the state. "We want to keep revenues equal to expenditures," she said.

To prepare for the retirement of Reinhard Nickisch, the longtime principal at F.E. Peacock Middle School, this month officials in Itasca District 10 hired Brian Faulkner to lead the school in the 2012-13 school year. Faulkner currently serves as the assistant principal at Heineman Middle School in Algonquin, and District 10 officials say he brings a wealth of experience.

Students at Bensen Primary School in Itasca will participate in a workshop Tuesday that challenges them to gain a better understanding of their classmates in the special education program. Participants must complete tasks like using wheelchairs to get about the school.
