    Four people have filed a lawsuit against McHenry County 22nd Judicial Circuit Clerk Katherine Keefe, arguing her office improperly assessed fines instead of fees after their traffic and misdemeanor cases were adjudicated. The federal lawsuit seeks class action status, a collective refund of $3,525 to the four plaintiffs and a reimbursement of $25.3 million collected from defendants in thousands of other cases.

    F. Keith Brown, the first black judge and chief judge in the 16th Judicial Circuit, is stepping down after nearly 23 years on the bench. The 57-year-old Elgin native held his final court call last week, and now plans to work for a Chicago mediation firm, among other things. “This is a great job, and I love it. I could do it another 20 years and still be a happy person,” Brown said

A discovery recount in early May did not reveal any irregularities; Tegeler advances to the Nov. 4 election where no Democrat has filed for the seat.

    The second part of a discovery recount began Monday for D.J. Tegeler's seven-vote victory over Marmarie Kostelny for the GOP nomination for Kane Circuit judge. Last week, two precincts in Aurora were counted; 16 precincts will be counted in Kane County this week. Kostelny's camp has until May 19 to petition for a full recount.
